Have a 12k FW pulled with an 06 Cummins. Get right at 11 mpg hand calculated. The digital lying meter says 14 mpg. If your really getting 15 mpg+ you are doing outstanding. No way anybody is getting 17+ towing a TT/FW.
Now same truck with an 18k# gooseneck horse trailer I average about 13mpg. That trailer is narrower and shorter than the FW. On long distance highway towing with trailers inside the ratings of the truck it is more about wind resistance than wieght, as you can see by my example.
