Full Monty at the Cat scale

The 19.5’s are really the hot ticket for a srw truck with a camper, it drives so much better and knowing that I’m now under the maximum tire load and axle rating makes me feel much better.

I’ve had a few guys ask me about them when we’re camping. They couldn’t believe that my rig was almost 11,000 lbs. without groceries and beer.
One guy had a large Bigfoot on an older F350 srw crew cab; he said he had custom springs put on the rear to level the truck. I told him he had to be several thousand pounds heavier than me and my truck was exceeding the maximum load on the stock rear tires. He said he was going to get it weighed before the next trip.

55,000 miles since I bought the TC. I beat on my rig, dirt, gravel, washboard, Mt roads, freeway, and about 1/3 of those miles towing the horse trailer. I probably drive the rough stuff faster than I should but oh well

I'll take two snapped bolts, one on each airbag in all those miles. I like my set up, its comfortable, its paid for, and it just plain works for me.

I break something on every one of my toys at some time or another during their life span. I consider it the price of admission to the fun zone. Broken Bicycles, dinged up Scuba gear, torn waders, snapped fishing rods, dented fender. I blew a head in my Land Cruiser FJ40, Tranny in my Volvo, engine in the Porsche, Popped roof rivets and a ramp hinge in my horse trailer.

I will always push my toys hard if they break I can fix it or buy something else. It's only stuff.

9900# GVWR with 6830# RAWR from FORD for SRW (11,200/8250 DRW)

My Lance 981 fully loaded and wet for a three month trip to Alaska weighed 5,000# front axle and 8,000# rear axle. The truck is about 8,000# empty. I hve driven this combo more than 100,000 miles and it is very solid in mountains, dirt roads and high winds. I have had no trouble at all with my air bags. Of course I have a dually.

Trucks with campers are not a good use for airbags.

This certainly has not been my experience with a 4000 pound cabover. Being able to adjust pressure from the inside of the cab, compensate for the varying loads, adjusting for drivers or passenger side differential air, and not having to use a wrench to change the Stableloads are all plusses to me. I have found air bags to create a very stable truck camper platform and have yet to have a bag or line failure or a bolt break.

I would like to review any data you could provide to support your assertion that air bags are not that good for cabover campers.

The weight limit on a F250/F350 front axle is because of the ball joints, not the tires or rims. Best thing you can do is remember, it's not just the tires, it is also the rims that limit you.

I've always laughed at the GVW on my 2001 F250. Set so low, if you put in a full tank of diesel, and 4 people in the cab, you are over the GVW (8800lbs, about 7800 empty with the 7.3L/6spd/4x4)

Of course, that low of a GVW helps to keep the weight tag portion of the license down.

The Dana 60 front axle is rated at 7250 lbs and the Visteon Sterling 10.5" rear axle is rated at 9750 lbs on the SRW Fords. The tires and rims on the F250 are typically rated around 6200 lbs per axle and the F350 around 7000 lbs.
