Funny looking propane regulator - another rookie question.

This new trailer of ours has the propane regulator screwed into the front of the box. What is up with that? Are there some new safety features in it or something? I liked it when the regulator was ...

I assume by "box" you mean right at the bottom of the trailer front wall where the hose normally connects. If so and it is for a single tank sounds like they were being cheap with the installation and used a hose and regulator similar to a BBQ grill or other propane appliance.
