Garmin back up camers

Has any one used a Garmin GPS RV760 back up camera on a t-trailer? I was thinking it might be a good way to go. Any thoughts?
Thanks Jim
  • Yes it will really work from the rear but you may need the extension cable.
I needed the extension cable to get a consistent reliable image
  • :) Hi, I just bought the Garmin with back up camera, but haven't mounted it yet. Will it, or is it, necessary to mount the receiver on the front of my trailer for it to work? Or will it really work on a 25' trailer with the receiver in the back?
  • Z Pellar you bring up a good point. The BC 20 back up camera works fine . But now that I have a back up camera I'm not sure what I should be using it for.
I'm really not concerned with who or what is directly behind me while traveling down the road. My mirrors give me all the travelling info I need. To some degree I consider the camera a distraction while traveling down the road
While backing into a site, I still rely on my mirrors although I may glance at the camera image,my mirrors are my main focus.
In the end the back up camera is really just a novelty for me. I could easily do without it.
  • Bought my RV 760 LMT last year. Got the B-20 camera this fall & installed it on top of the ladder on my 26' t/t. Took power from my Lic plate light.Put transmit unit on top of MaxAir vent near rear of trailer. My truck is L/B ext cab with F/G canopy on it. Used the camera for a 2 hr trip so far, and no problems with it transmitting to the GPS unit on the dash. It is more wide angle than I expected though, so vehicles coming up behind you are too tiny to make out on the screen until they are pretty close. The adjustable "line of sight" lines on the screen for backing up are pretty neat once you have them set up, as well as the green, yellow, red lines for distance back. I am happy with the performance of the unit, just not sure of its usefulness other than seeing what is directly behind the trailer. Mirrors are still my main backup tools.
  • Thanks for the input. Got mine RV 760 with back up camera. Had a deal on the camera and will install next spring when the nice weather comes.

  • I have the Garmin 760 LMT and the BC-20 back up camera. It all works very well.
Camera image is far from HD quality, but it is adequate as a back up camera.
There is no night vision lighting, camera does not work very well in the dark.

Nevertheless the camera is a nice option. Being able to use the Garmin display is a tremendous plus. You can switch between camera image and map view with the touch of a icon on the display screen. The biggest advantage of the Garmin camera is that you don't need a separate monitor for the Back up camera. The Garmin GPS display can serve both purposes.
My camera is mounted on the rear of my 40' 5'er. I had to order the extension cable ($35.99 ? additional) to get the image to display properly. Without the cable the camera image was erratic and went in and out.
In the end the install works well. For less then $200.00 I added a decent back up camera. I have had the set up for 2 season now without any issues
  • I have the Garmin GPS but use a cheap backup camera (about $20 if I remember correctly) and just plug it into the Garmin. Works great with the big screen.
  • This summer I purchased the Garmin RV760LMT GPS with backup camera. I installed the backup camera on the truck so I could back up to and hitch our travel trailer by myself. When we're camping, My wife (with one of our handheld two-way radios) is my backup camera. That way she can keep an eye out for side clearance, estimate room for the slide, and generally get the rig where she wants it. Sometime in 2015, we plan to move up to a fifth wheel and go full-time. At that time I'll consider moving the camera to the back of the fiver.

With all that said, the backup camera is a good one and works well. Pretty wide angle of view and good visibility on the "big-screen" 760 GPS. Sorry I can't help you more.
