Gas Mileage of 2013 Trucks - Gas and Diesel Both Welcom

My 04 Ford Diesel just took a******on me, so I'm in the market for a new truck. 98% of the usage will be driving from home to work, and the rest will be towing a 5th wheel.

I loved the Diesel, but it is so hard to justify the cost or a new one, 8k more just to get diesel.

I don't want a debate, as that's happened 500 times, and I know the benefits already. But, I would like just numbers of the following:

Must be a 2013 Ford, Chevy, or GMC (I just don't like the Dodge's).

What do you get for mileage? I'm hoping to compare the 3/4 gas to diesel to ton to ton duely, everything.

Basically, I know I'll get less mileage for gas, but if it's is like 5 mpg less, then that's fine with me. If it's 15, then I'll reconsider.

I'm particulary interested in what ton duelly's gas.

So, just post your mileage, year, make, model, and anything pertinent (gear / axel ratio, 4x4, 4x2, towing, etc).

    2012 Chevy 2500HD CC 6.5' box 3.73 6.0L Since I put larger 18" tires on it highway at 65 mph 14.5 mpg. Prior with factory 17" 15.3 at 65 mph. Towing around 13K and it pulls down to 6-8 mpg. If it matters, I really like the pickup, I like the way it pulls, even when pulling loads beyond its ratings. Its my first HD gas pickup. Still have my diesels, but this is no slouch of pickup.

    gosh, your very first post and you hate Dodges and you don't want to do the gas vs diesel debate and you had an 04 Ford diesel that went belly up and you don't want to talk 6.0 Fords...

    Come on now, where is the fun in all that? These topics are the food that keeps this Forum alive.....
    Can we at least debate Walmart camping or ST vs LT tires?.....:)

    Towing only 2% of the time? I wouldn't even consider paying extra for a diesel. Certainly not a new one with a chance of GM's DEF problems or Ford's water in fuel fiasco.

    Haha, thanks. Ya, I figured my situation spoke for itself, 04 ford diesel that is on it's last leg in regards to my opinion on the engine.

    I don't hate Dodges, they just aren't my favorite exterior look :)

    The truck will be used to commute to work about 16 miles a day, 12 miles being at around 60-65 mpg, rest in town. I drive hard, so I'd expect less mileage then most. (not a teenager speed demon driving, just always in the fast lane).

    But, I do camp with the camper about 8-10 times a year, all within a 2 hour drive max. That's why I say about 2% of the driving.

    I need the numbers to see when, and ever if, a diesel will pay for itself. I absolutely love the torque and will miss it if I go gas, but honestly, I haven't pulled with gas, and my truck has been******for 2 years, so I don't even know if I've been pulling with full power or not.

    My initial guesses are diesel will get about 5-7 mpg better not towing, and probably about the same towing. I'm pretty interested in the mileage of a gas ton truck, and a ton duelly, as I'd consider those to sort of make up for diesel perks of towing.

    Yeah, you made the same mistake I often do... too much information. Now everyone has an opening to comment on all the various aspects of your story. :)

    But what you really want to know is the MPG of 2013 one ton gas trucks.

    Mine in my signature is getting 16 to 17 hwy and 12 to 13 around town. I get 8.5 to 10 towing. I have about 4000 miles all still stock.

    That one's easy, the diesel won't "pay for itself". But if you want one and have the money you should get it without worrying about mpg or anything else.

    I'm pretty sure my next truck will be a diesel (and 4x4). Not because I "need" either, but because I want those options and have the money to spare for them.

    I'd worry more about the DPF problems some are having with the LML engines and the expensive, unwaranteed failures some have the minute the water in fuel light comes on in the Fords. At least thats what I've been watching.

    16 and 10.5 and why would'nt you spend $50000.00 + tax and liscense to ride in the left lane. What else do you have to spend money on? Why not buy a Prius and a Motorhome? You can tow the Prius along then. I don't think they make a gas dually anymore. Could be wrong.
