Gear for towing

I am just starting to tow a small car with our motorhome. It has a triton v10 I was towing in overdrive with no problem should I be towing in overdrive with the tow haul on or off and when should a person use the gears 3,2, ,1. I realize maybe I sound stupid but I really don't know what to do

The tow/haul mode is typically used for varying conditions to prevent the transmission from shifting excessively. Use normal mode unless you notice the transmission having trouble maintaining gear selections. I haven't had this feature on a MH but in my chevy van the tow/haul mode simply locks the transmission into an RPM shifting mode but doesn't limit it going into the top OD gear. However, it upshifts at 2100 rpm and downshifts at 1700 rpm so doesn't get into top gear until the speed is over 62 mph. See if yours does something similar.

Thank you both very much my wife and I are new at this and everyone I speak to seems to give me a different answer. All I did notice is that when I use my tow haul the RPmS seem to stay up a lot higher. We will try different ways I guess we really are not towing in any mountains. Thanks again and happy trails

i've towed all over the SE with our 2001 Rexhall F53.. Except for in the mountains, I've never not used overdrive. And we are just about always towing. a two door Jeep Wranger, or 20 Ft boat

My owners manual states if you are towing use tow haul. I did on our last trip and noticed a big difference in gas mileage(lower) than when I was not towing. I am going to try and only use it on hills up and down next time to see how that is. I don't really know if you need it on the flats as much, maybe someone else knows as I have only had mine for 8-9 months now
