Yeah, quality is a *****. :W
Funny how so many constantly complain about the lack of quality in RV construction yet just like this constant whining about the cost of a Yamaha or Honda genset they'd also complain about the cost of a quality built RV even though that's what they've insisted they've always wanted! :S D.E.Bishop wrote:

My preference is the Yamaha. Equal in every way to Honda but comes from Japan, our ally. We use the 2000 watt inverter. Wonderful generator for dry camping. Also use it to power radio equipment for ham radio.
Actually it's not equal, the Honda EU2000i boasts a much better surge capability than does the Yamaha EF2000iS, with a full rated surge capability of at least 1/2 hour, a measure the Yammy can't even come close to, no doubt because of it's 20% smaller engine. Now of course the story is even worse for the Yammy with the introduction of the new Honda EU2200i with it's 121 cc engine. :(Bobbo wrote:
If you have a Progressive Industries EMS unit, remember that Progressive Industries says this:
Progressive Industries website - Yamaha Generator
Please be advised the Yamaha Generator Model EF2000iS does not generate enough start-up current which causes the unit to overload. The generator then puts out non-true Sine Wave power. Progressive Industries units are designed to operate only on True Sine Wave power.
For this reason, The Progressive Industries Warranty is hereby void if an EMS Unit is used in conjunction with a Yamaha Generator Model EF2000iS. Any damage sustained to the EMS unit are the sole responsibility of the customer.
'Though it should be noted that Progressive hasn't updated this disclaimer to indicate whether the newest, current selling EF2000iSv2 is also included. Would be nice if they did. :R
All this said I'm one of those who has successfully and repeatedly been able to start a 13,500 BTU A/C with a single EU2000i BUT only at close to sea level (where we happen to live) and only when the ambient temps aren't higher than the mid-80s. Nonetheless, there was still such an initial load placed on the genset by the A/C compressor on start up that my Progressive EMS would chatter badly, the solution being to remove it entirely. With the A/C equipped with a Micro-Air Easy Start Soft Starter kit that may no longer be necessary, particularly if one has a new EU2200i rather than the previous EU2000i. Would be interesting to know if one could leave the EMS inserted into the circuit, if for no other reason than convenience. - drsteveExplorer

Even the handle looks nice. Say what you will but the Japanese can design and engineer well. If this was a US built product it would have a handle assembly that incorporated flimsy mounting brackets and a handle that would get in the way of everything,

When your product is the most expensive in its class, you're not dumping.
You're not "dumping", you're gouging. :B - drsteveExplorer
