Getting your Truck Camper Stored Indoors

Trying to find options on how to get my new TC stored indoors.
I am not liking the southern california sun already taking its beating. The problem is my garage is 10' tall but my TC is about 10'8"! Any ideas on how the easist way to get er in? I also have crushed asphalt in the front so any rollers I use to dolly the camper in the garage digs in.

Here is my garage

Crushed asphalt, I am thinking about pouring a pad out front to be able to roll the camper in and out.

Any feedback would be great thanks

  • lonetow's has a great trailer. If moving the TC is the only need, a less expensive trailer would do. lonetow's trailer offers the option of using the TC as a Travel Trailer, with no weight issues.

  • I had the same problem with my 10ft shop door height, so I picked up this nifty 5 X 12 Big Tex tandem trailer with 3500lb axles and one brake axle. Works perfect for getting the TC in and is about impossible to overload when we use it for 4 wheelers and gear.
  • I wouldn't touch the garage roof as it looks like it is supporting the floor above the garage. you support bricks may go down far enough so that you could lower the floor a foot or two but probably not cheap to do it..covers are not easy to put on but cheaper than a new floor..
  • As polarbare21 suggested, set it in front of the garage on a utility trailer, but, back it in with your truck, or install a hitch in the front of your truck. You need not worry about the load capacity of the trailer, a single axle 8-foot long trailer will do the job. You will be going very slow and only moving about 20 feet.

As for rolling something on the crushed asphalt, you can cut two sheets of 1/2" strand board for ramps. You still have to move about 2000 to 3000 pounds 20-feet. I would use a trailer, with a front receiver.

  • I would invest in a trailer to set the TC on. Then hook it up to your truck and back it in. If it was me I would have a custom trailer built if I had to. Might even want to put tanden wheels on it for stability. It would be well worth it to keep the TC protected. I had a custom aluminum trailer built for my ATV for $1400.
  • Is there any room to redesign the roof trusses to open a channel up to clear anything on the roof of the camper (A/C, vents etc?)or adding another layer of block 16" to the top of the walls.

Lowering the air pressure in the truck tires.

Or make or purchase a small 4 wheel trailer (mini hay wagon type) to set the camper on, then using a quad to back the whole thing in.
  • Pour the pad and you can use hard rubber or steel casters on a dolly. Otherwise, you could use larger inflatable tires on a dolly.
