Glass in cabinet door

I have a 2007 Cougar 5th wheel. One of the windows in a cabinet door is coming off. How would you fix it. It is glued in. What kind of glue did they use. I have tried some glue and it did not work. Any ideas out there. I think its a plastic window.
  • Be sure if you RTV the glass to the frame, that you ONLY put a dab at each corner. If you run a full bead all the way around, the glass will break when the glass gets hot. Believe me, I know.
  • Not a worry, Sleepy. The OP is asking the question for his 5th Wheel Camper, not for a truck camper.
  • I concur with Kolhdad. All the glass in my display cabinet doors (10) in the house are done exactly that way. That is how the pros did it at the shop when I had the glass cut to fit.

  • It has been a little more than 12 1/2 years since I looked at very many truck campers.

I have never seen one with glass doors in the cabinates... most have beautiful wood cabinates and doors.... If I had glass doors anything I would want to exhibit would probably be breakable.... like china or wine glasses.

The places we go in our TC are more suited for paper plates, paper bowls, plastic drinking glasses (or better still, directly out of the can) and plastic tableware.... we use paper towels for napkins and hand wipes.

If we had glass doors I'd cover them on the inside with pictures so they'd keep folks from seeing all of the picnic stuff we eat on when eating in the camper.

We recycle the paper, plastic, and cans.... saves our limited supply of water and extends our time off grid.

I hope Janet doesn't see the fancy doors... she might bug me for some.

BTW... I would use wood strips to hold the glass in... the glass would float slightly... but wouldn't stress and break as the camper twists and bounces... I think glue might cause glass failure and a mess to repair (the whole door) when it breaks.

Looking forward to pictures of your campers kitchen.

    What'll they think of next?
  • RTV can be purchased at WalMart, auto parts stores,or most any hardware store.
  • Take the door off and lay it face down. Lay the glass in place. Add a bead or RTV silicon in the corner where the glass and door meet, all the way around the pane. Let cure for 24 hours and then reinstall in the cabinet.
