Buy a GM if you want but I have a feeling they are about to file bankruptcy again. Also they have been known to not back up there warranty. Who cares about these wars. My Ram has 370 hp and 800lb of torque. That is more than I need. They are going to keep on and these little trucks will have as much torque as a semi. Just crazy if you ask me. And by the way there is only one true diesel out there in my mind and it is an inline 6 called a Cummins. There is a reason they use it in the bigger trucks. Real diesels are inline 6, not V8.
Let's not forget the Cummins is a Medium duty engine and the other two are light duty.
Eeeh come on... And what exactly makes one medium vs light?
I used to believe this as well, but Ford really over-built the 6.7 for the most part. The Ford 6.7 has some pretty slick features that do make it medium duty and Ford is doing just that with their F650+ trucks using the scorpion motor going forward. I'm not as familiar with the Duramax's construction so I can't say much about it. But the Ford does a nice job using lifters with 2 pushrods to each unit so they have a bigger roller/surface area with the cam lobes. Also like the individual rockers for each valve as well in the head (no valve bridges. The reverse flow design makes great sense and reduces packaging. the Oil cooler is in an excellent location as well for servicing. The rods are a little small, even though H&S put a lot of power through the super duty, making power at relatively high RPM's is not as rough on a motor as low rpm lugging where the Cummins excels. So it's a possible weak spot for the motor. The main caps are pretty stout units as well. Bearings are also pretty huge looking in my book (another medium or heavy duty feature). The turbo was another weak spot, but it seems like this is resolved in 2015 going forward as well.
When I stared at a comparison video made against the Ford 6.7, I wasn't really impressed by what they defined as features that made their motor medium duty (seemed to be a dealership or something). It seems like Ford took all the short-comings of the 6.4 and applied most of them to the 6.7. I'd say the 6.7 is up to task. It will be interesting to see the new Duramax dissected in the near future.
