Good parking surface?

For my Utility, TT and Boat trailers, I use Patio Stones Pad and above this base, I use a 2x12" board (and lock the tires in using 2x3s). Clean, simple and very low cost.

Some folks don't like "wood" (like 2x12"). For me, it isn't really about the wood. It's more about the thickness of wood that keeps the rubber higher off the ground - further away from natural dampness and rain splashes...

We have an asphalt driveway that includes a paved RV parking area. Over the years the asphalt started to sink down where the RV wheels sat. The RV always had to be parked in the same spot, within 6" due to the slideout clearance and access along the other side. Eventually the "dip" in the asphalt got to be over an inch deep.

Last summer I cut out the asphalt with a power saw, and poured two concrete strips for the RV to sit on. I used extra rebar, and extra cement in the mix.

We have cold winters and the freezing and thawing with the weight of the RV in the same spot month after month made asphalt a poor choice.

Yep, sitting in water is the worst.

There are self-appointed experts everywhere. The trick is to do your own research - then you'll know for sure.

Do a Google search and you will find real expert information from tire manufacturers. Here is a direct quote from Michelin:
"Michelin recommends placing a barrier (cardboard, plastic or plywood) between the tire and the storage surface."

Looks to me that wood is a-okay, which is good for me as our trailer is stored on a wood floor in a barn.

When we made the driveway wider for the new TT I used gravel, so far have not had any issues. I did buy a set of covers for the tires and whenever the TT will sit for more than a few days I make sure to cover the tires.

Concrete, gravel or wood are all equally good. Just don't park them in a puddle and you should be just fine.

We,re moving ours in March to a diferent space on our property. Wil be gravel with concrete pads for tires and tongue. Don't forget to get some 8 in flashing, pull of enough to go around your wheels and cut a slot in ea end so they fit together in a circle around the tire as mice can't jump or climb them. Put steel wool around the electric line to.

We did exactly what secondchance did with the slope, retaining wall, fill, fill, more fill, rock, more rock. Then were fortunate enough NOT to live in a HOA that restricted an aluminum cover. As the project grew and grew it ended up about 26 x 36 give or take. It's protected our previous ROO and now the TT. If you are in a situation where you can, strongly suggest you look toward a covered area. DH usually just tosses an old blanket down on the rock when he has work to do. Since the garage is overfull with most every piece of woodworking equipment and now 12 - or so - RC airplanes in various stages of work, my little car, the TT, an open utility trailer and if need be the front of both the F-150 and DSs Ranger will fit under the cover. I don't see us ever considering concreting that area, although an additional layer of rock may be added at some point. Have had no problems parking on the gravel/rock area.
