Great Lakes RV

I apologize...in a different thread I thought this was Capital RV...but its Greal Lakes RV. Has anyone had any experience buying through this company in Indiana? I am looking at a TT that is priced $3000 less than my local dealer...including the delivery and its an upgraded version of this particular TT. Any advice or help would be appreciated.
Thanks!!
  • We purchased our current Big Horn from RV Capital Wholesalers which is the internet component of Great Lakes RV. We purchased through the website and then went to Great Lakes to pickup the unit. We got a great price. Spent two nights in their lot moving from the old to new RV as we are full timers. They took the old unit in on trade. The service was OK is all I can say. A few things we asked to have fixed were never really fixed to our satisfaction so my husband took care of those items later. We did stay for a week in Elkhart Campground to work out all the bugs. Overall a good experience and we would do it again.
  • Yes, same company. I think they just want to one a domain with the words "RV" and "Wholesaler" in the same akin to a certain competitor.

I got a very competitive quote 4 years ago when I bought my TT from RV Capital. My friend purchased a Big Horn through RV Capital and had a great experience. Stayed overnight to make sure everything was good.
  • Oh and they use two different names, and until this winter had more than one facility here in town. The partners have had some difference in opinions and have one has bought the other out and are operating out of one facility now. So your other thread about RV Capital is not out of the realm of possibility either. I think Rv Capital was the one that got closed or re-labeled into Great lakes rv.
  • We bought from Rob (the owner) at Great lakes. The purchase went just fine, the PDI and pickup could have been a better experience for us. As we were told we would be able to back into their shop and setup our hitch before leaving. We were in the sales office doing the paperwork thing and the shop guys drug it outside in the 5 deg snowing like mad weather and locked the gate and left. (I am still mad) We just put it on the hitch and drug it home, 3 miles all city driving.

I have had it back to the dealer a few times for warranty work and it never goes as easy as it should. Things not done, others made worse. The last time I was in there they tried to charge me for open invoices for old warranty repairs. (still mad about that too)

It seems to me that this dealers specialty is out of town sales. They know that the units are not likely to return for repair so they don't seem to thrive in the repair work end of things.

They also have a fast turnover rate of employees in the service area.

They sure do have the ability to sell trailers reasonably priced though.

If I were you I would ask for a better discount.
