Grill winter diaper

My 2015 Duramax came with one. I used it for a short time when it was extremely cold last year. Maybe it helped it to warm up a little faster. Never really noticed much difference. I get lots of heat without it..

I have taken the factory Winter fronts and had the centers cutout and a removable flap put over the center that is fixed in place by Velcro. Works excellent when it is subzero like it is now you keep it zipped up, when you hook up and need to pull you remove the center section and your good to go. Taking the WF on and off can be a PINTA, using the Velcro fixed fronts lets you have the best of both.

I forgot about that. I had a '62 Volvo PV 544, made in Sweden of course, but lived on the cold Canadian prairies. The device aided warm up and driving around in very cold temps, which we get a lot of, out here.

I would check your owner's manual to see if it recommends using or not using an engine cover.

My experience goes back 10-20 years ago when I used a front grille cover and probably isn't relevant in these modern days.

Back then...20 years ago...I used to see a lot of trucks with them when I think of it now, don't see many modern trucks with them anymore.

Never heard it called a diaper before.

Question... New to the diesel thing.

I have a 2015 Duramax and i am not using the grill cover. Although we are having a mild winter here in Michigan, I have noticed reduced MPG in the last month or so (my commute is 50 miles each way on the expressway). Is this common or do I have something else going on?

Most modern diesels tend to specify to leave a winter front on only when the temps will never go over 40 degrees ambient. I see them here in the PNW, but typically they are the type of fronts you can zipper partially open. If you're staying in the arctic, sure leave it on. But you are making a trip to warmer pastures. You can probably get along fine leaving it off for your trip.

They are called ....WINTER FRONTS.... not diapers. 40 years of trucking and only on a pickup forum have I ever heard them called that . In a semi truck Caterpillar Motor Co. always told us to warm the engine up with the WF if you need to then take it off, don't ever block the needed air flow to your motor. If your motor isn't running hot enough take it in and get it looked at.
