Happijac Help

I have motorized Happijac 4150 jacks on my camper. For the most part they have been trouble free. This spring when I used them for the first time the two front jacks would NOT cooperate. The lacks went up and down without issue until they were under load. One jack would groan loudly when turning with the motor or manually.

I released the motors and cranked them by hand and nearly had to hang from the handle to get them to move up OR down when the camper weight was on them.

I removed both jacks and disassembled, cleaned and lubricated the worm gear and the gears in the head with white lithium grease. One jack now works fine but the groaning jack still groans but will raise and lower the camper. The groan is coming from the top of the jack. Calls to Lippert have proven useless as nobody returns my calls. The form to fill out on line is broken so I cannot contact them that way.

Any ideas on what is the issue with this groaning jack?

Thanks,

Mike
  • Be careful, one of my 4500 failed. The nut the worm screw runs through rusted out.
When you pulled them apart was there rust on the worm screw? If so the main nut is rusting and could be binding.
  • When you pulled the jack apart and greased etc, did you pull off the cinch spring and check the roller bearing in there?... use emery cloth to clean up the thrust block sufaces and washer the bearing runs on?...I have also had to emery cloth rust from the hand crank barrel and bore when it is apart..

Yes there were a few spots of rust.

I did NOT check those things. Looks like I'll be tearing it down again. Good thing it's easy. Thanks to everyone for your help. I'll post my findings. I finally did get ahold of someone at Happijac but he was of no use. Very rude, said he call me back in a few minutes. That was yesterday and haven't heard a peep. Poor customer service.
