I wonder if there was once a small couch mounted on top of the box that you call the weird box. Even if not it would be a nice place to put one. That would be easier then moving the furnace and fresh water tank. Maybe even a couple of small swivel chairs could be mounted there. Then get a flat screen TV on a swivel wall mount and put it where that picture is above the dinette seat. That's what I did and I like it there. I bought a TV mount that comes with a second wall mount that allows me to lift the TV off and it then easily move it over to my bedroom area.
