After being an over the road trucker for 40 years (retired now), I can tell you that the issue with any scale, split pad or one piece pad, will be the entrance and exit ramps. If the scale entrance and exit ramps are level and on the gradient as the scale, you can split weigh using a solid pad, but, if the approach or the departure ramps are sloped to a lower gradient than the scale plate, it throws off the weigh by quite a bit. IOW, everything has to be on the same gradient / plane to accurate weigh
Why CAT scales are all split pad. You weight on the same plane for all axles.
Why, when any jurisdiction uses portable weigh scales, the place where they weigh must be certified level and flat by a registered surveying company and have that certification on file and viewable at all times or you can beat an overweight fine in any court. I know, I've done it more than once.:E
