Hitch Choice - 1999 Silverado 1500

I am looking for a hitch for a 1999 Chevy Silverado 1500.

etrailer has several different brands. There are 2 different styles. The Curt has 2 attachments to the frame on each side and 2 attachments to the underside of the bumper.

The others have 3 attachments to the frame on each side and no attachment to the bumper.

Is one style better than the other?
  • Thanks for the thoughts. I was leaning toward the one with all the mounts to the frame.

One of the Curt models does have 2 bolts on either side of the receiver opening that bolt to the underside of the bumper like the factory hitch. The other 4 bolts attach to the frame.
  • Get the one that has a square tube and that has the highest ratings I had to replace my factory round tube on my 06 Yukon XL and I used the Curt that had the square tube and highest rating. I don't remember if it bolted onto the bumper or not, but it was a lot stronger then the factory one.
  • I think they all bolt to frame..Curt is just using the bumper to frame mounting holes

If it really does bolt to bumper then NO
Go with direct bolting to frame
