We did exactly what you are suggesting. Just take one of your home boxes with you when you camp. No need to buy an extra box (although they were only $5 a month when we did it that way).
We now have cable at home and the trailer satellite is a bit more difficult.
One of the satellites has a pay-as-you-go plan, where you can buy one month at a time. We have a small carryout portable dish. Once you hone in on the satellite, it works great.
The only problem we have with the P-A-Y-G plan is, every time we take a trip in a new month, we have to call to activate.
And every time, so far, we have been told that we have a past due amount. We then explain to them that the plan is a month-to-month plan that we have to activate each month we want it.
They agree, remove the charge and activate for another month.
Have to go through this process EVERY time.
