Looking for info on hauling a Host Mammoth on my Kodiak C5500. Top of the bed above the tires is 36" from the ground. The bed its self is 9 ft and from the bed to the top of the cab is around 60". It has a rack on front and a 150 gallon fuel tank. Figure the fuel tank will have to be swapped out for a different one. The center of the bed is dropped down where the Gooseneck and 5th wheel is mounted now. If I had to I think the center could be lowered 4" and widened out some and allow the floor of the T/C to fit into it. But would have to know the width of the bottom of the unit to be sure on that.Here's a few pics of the bed and truck.As you can see the center is 40" wide and can be widened up to 48" easy and can go to 54" if need be. That would drop the camper down 5" more then sitting up on top.Pete

First, that is a really cool truck.I see several problems with hauling a TC. Mainly the cab is too tall. You wouldn't want to drop the camper any. You'd probably need to raise it up to clear the cab. On my camper the distance from the bottom of the camper (that would sit on the bed) to the bottom of the cabover (that would need to clear the cab) is just under 48".Also, the location of your exhaust stacks, assuming they're functional, would be blowing hot exhaust right up on the front of the camper. I suspect it would at best turn the camper black and at worst melt it.If you can loose the stacks and get a level bed floor about the height of the back part of your aux. fuel tank it might work.

My base is 48.5" wide. Height to floor over bed rails is 22". Length of bottom is 8'9.5". I have 2" bumpers on the front so 9' is close before you crush the dropped walls or wings at side entry and generator housing.

Awesome truck. Not the right setup to load an off the shelf pickup camper onto.

Thanks guys, the Stacks would be taken off. Been meaning to take them off the last 2 years. But just have not taken the time to remove them yet. Some people told me with them on there. The front of the 5th wheel, would be black. But never has that issue yet. Only good thing about those stacks, man the cummins sounds good in it.Kodiak/CumminsWill try to get some info on doing this from the few that have one mounted on a Kodiak or semi. But with a 6000+ T/C on back of this camper. It would not know its there, and run up any grade without breathing hard. But then again I have to talk my wife into going back to a T/C first. But she also loved being able to pull over anywhere for the night with out old T/c. Or set up in the smallest sites. Where now there's few we can fit into.I would have to remove the Auto Tracking Sat dish from the roof of the truck though. Its 5" higher then the top of the cab. But could add it to the T/C then hook up to the truck. But then again I can't watch TV while driving. So the rest should not watch it.Pete

Still not given up on this ideal. Found a guy I think if FL. That had mounted the same camper on his truck like mine. He had to have the headache rack taken off. And a custom Aluminium frame built. That tied into his hauler bed and got the cab over to clear the cab. He could remove the camper and frame. Attach the headache rack. And you could not tell it was ever taken off.
Guess I will wait until we run up on a unit. Get to see one in person to look into this more. AS if its not lots better getting into the bed. IT will not work for us. As that's whey we got rid of the Okanagan 811-SL. Loved it but not getting into and out of bed. Getting in and out is bad when your back goes out.
Forgot to add these items.. From the ground to the flat top part of the bed. 40" then from the bed to the top of the cab is 50".

It might be 4500. I remember he runs 19.5's on it. I don't think the 5500 is much taller, if any.

I think Brian's Kodiak is a 4500... Bryan's Ford is most certainly a 550.

Spoke to Brian a few weeks ago... we used to get together a couple of times a year but I am too busy to do any camping. He is putting his camper to good use even though I have not seen him around here for quite a while.
