How Can I Remove Hard Water Spots From Paint

Have tried the vinegar thing several times with poor results...

A good mild abrasive compound (like Mguires cleaner/wax) and some good ol elbow grease seem to work best.

I have had great results with Protectall removing water spots from paint and glass.

Mothers clay bar and whatever the spray stuff it's called works great. It's sold as a kit.
Just a note here, NO TERRY CLOTH TOWELS on your paint. You need those Micro-cloth type towels! And when you wash them don't use fabric softener in the rinse. For windows use the flat stove top stuff they sell at your local grocery store, works like a charm. Vinegar is nice for certain tasks, but it's over-rated lately, IMO. Must be John Kerry's wife :B

I asked the same question on a Sea Doo forum and I got the Vinegar and water solution answer. I tried it, and it works awesome, and its cheap.

This stuff works great on my black vehicles. I use it on my Trucks, cars, fifth wheel, and boat.


Polish

1• Make a solution of 1-part white vinegar and 1-part water. Fill the spray bottle with this solution.
2• Spray the spotted surface with the vinegar and water solution. If you are spraying a vehicle, move it into the shade and let it cool down. If you are removing spots from windows, wait until the sun is not shining on them. Water spots are much harder to remove from hot surfaces.
3• Wipe the wet surface with a clean, soft cloth. It may take a little rubbing, but in most cases this process will remove water spots from all kinds of surfaces. This includes paint, glass and stainless steel.

CLAY BAR - meguiars , mother's , other , it makes no difference .
in my experience what works best is frequent car washing and polishing .
what i mean is that if you are going to do it yourself the least painful way is to wash your car / truck every week and then polish it .
over time you will discover that the finish improves .
once you get it shiny you can use a protectant like ICE
although i use a lot of meguiars products what i have learned is that ELBOW GREASE is more important than brand .
you can find a very good detailer for cheap by attending a hotrod meet .
those elderly gentlemen have nothing better to do than dispense FREE information on what works to get them show quality shiny .
these guys know the cheapest / best detailers , upholstery shops , mechanics , tire shops , etc . in their area .
plus there is a car show every weekend this time of year .

On my dark brown Buick, I have had good luck rinsing it with clear water with non water spotting dishwasher additive mixed in. Then dry with a terry towel. If the spots have been on there a long time, this method might be less effective. Those could be acid rain spots.

I have had luck using a clay bar; gets rid of spots and all sorts of stuff and is easier to do then waxing your truck with past wax.

Auto detail shop and get a complete exterior rub out and wax. Around here it runs $150 plus an extra $100 if you want an interior with shampo.

Don
