How things change

pitstop 1950 vs now

Thought my fellow gear heads might like this comparo short video of a 1950 2 tire and fuel stop vs a modern 4 tire and full fuel stop.

how things improve eh?
  • Nice. I liked the concept of the driver being able to do some of the work! Imagine that now ...
  • Did the current car get fuel? I didn't see it.

Plus seriously- they didn't even wipe his windshield. ;)
  • Cool video.

I bet that was a beer the driver took a swig of in the 1950 video. ;)
  • Granted there are more people doing the service, but the technology of a tire change and fueling a race has come a long ways also.

In 1950 the driver could eat lunch at a pit stop.

Now the driver does not have time to sneeze!

Well when you go from 3 to 5 people over the wall Counting the guy with the fire extinguisher, to 21 servicing the car.

At least NASCAR still has a limit of like 5 over the wall.

Mr Penske , hand me the BFH !
  • No fair! They had like 50 million people workin on that car!
  • Indy could have been faster if that guy had a bigger hammer. :)
