How to Fix my windows?

I have Hehr windows in my TT. A couple of them are leaking (I get water inside the TT) and I am not sure how to fix them. I searched on the web and Youtube and couldn't find anything.

The have a large trim piece around them on the outside of the window, about 1-inch or more wide, with a smaller piece on the inside of that one about 1/4 inch wide.

How do you go about sealing these?

  • Remove the window as described by Don/Lorri and use putty tape - wait a day or so for the putty to expand and then cut off and use a exterior sealant which cover the top and sides but not the bottom of the window. I use clear proflex as my sealant of choice.

The plan in the above post is good, except the part about using Dicor Butyl Sealant. That stuff is really only for roofs. RV Manufacturers use Geocel Proflex for side wall sealing around windows, etc.

Not true. Dicor has two flavors. One, lap seal for horizontal surfaces, one for verticals surfaces.

  • Easy fix. Buy a roll of butyl putty tape and a tube of Dicor for vertical surfaces. Go inside, take the screw and inside clamp ring off. With someone outside holding, from the inside gently push the window out. Clean everything removing the old caulk. Apply a bead of new putty tape, replace the window, reinstall the inside clamp ring. After a couple of warm days take a plastic scraper and clean up the putty that has squeezed out. Apply a bead of Dicor to the top and sides, leaving the bottom with only putty tape.
  • Are you sure they are actually leaking?

    • Could be just condensation dripping down the inside glass
    • Could be plugged "weep" holes at the bottom
