I did it first boo-bo on NTM camper need advice

Ok took our 2002 Dutchman aerolite cub on its first trip got in home ok pulling into storage facility took my eyes off side mirror talking to wife caught driver side corner. I thought I got off easy and just took off the marker light , No somehow the yellow pole that protects the code entry caught the side taking a 4"x4" inch of fiberglass off the wooden wall and buckled. I was able to fix the buckling after taking out some of the splinters . I covered with good old duck tape till I can make repair in a few days when weather improves. I saved the small piece that came off. Question can I sand area around and cover with fiberglass cloth sand and primer or do I need to use Putty over the fiberglass. I know it won't look like it came from factory but want it to at least look nice . Thanks for help . I picked up fiberglass repair kit by Bondo and primer for now
  • Looks pretty good. A little weathering and it will blend in better.
  • Well not original factory but fixed sorry no before Pic wanted to protect from elements

Nothing lost by trying. As I see it you will be no worse off if it doesn't hold. Just watch close for water leaks. Let us know how it holds up. Might have to make a trip or two to see if the flex in the rig affects it. Good luck.

Working on it now letting fiberglass cure then hit it with bondo won't finish today got to work third shift grr

  • Thanks I sure hope if I scuff it up good before hand it sticks I can't afford a big repair bill. Wife didn't want to have to add anything more on the insurance if not needed.

My Aerolite Cub was made of Filon, not fiberglass. Not sure if fiberglass will bond well with Filon.
