I hate to do this: New Years 2018 with the Ancients

Don't do it, don't look at this one, it embarrasses me. Way too long, too many pictures, too much text, and being a goofball doesn't fit me anymore, it will be a while before doing another unless it's spectacular. I know I said I'm pretty S&T of my trip reports but this one was already in the oven at the time, still half-baked. I apologize to my friends here.

Dan, ... converted VHS to DVD ... why?

We bought a SATA 65" big screen - deep color, calibrated, direct or upconversion 4K, 3D, etc., etc.. We still watch VHS movies directly on it and boy does it show them off well - way better than our old CRT TV could.

I suppose the best way to preserve RV TR movies and high resolution photos would be to upload them to the Cloud - if you have the Internet access bandwidth to do it in a reasonable length of time. 😉

Dan -- I admire your optimism that makes you concerned about reading DVDs 50 years from now. I too want to be able to play my collection when I'm 123 years old. However, I'm not worried about a well formed digital stream disappearing (and some should DEFINITELY disappear!, but won't)-- as long as 'someone' keeps transferring to to some non-degraded media. A reading device can always be reconstructed.

Well Dave, my comparatively meager set of TR's are 'immortalized', and free to all, on my web site -- ctwillis.com. (which I own - in a sense). From there (and from here) it's backed up daily or more often (see non-disappearing digital stream comment above). Your blog site is similar, without quite the same ownership. Besides -- I said to sell. You want to buy my TR's? I'll make you a DVD or 2. You got postage?

Another excellent tale and you photos are great looking. I agree with you that photos look so much better on our monitors than once posted to RV.net, I would hope that the power to be would support higher resolution photos than what is being offered presently.

Alright you guys, my good friends, thanks again for so many great replies. I have no idea where you manage to keep coming up with them all but I sure appreciate them! Believe it or not I/we camp and hike with you all there with us, you just don't know it until you see the TR but you were there. As far as "caching" my TR's for future great grand kids, and Cal, I don't see my/our adventures as having any more or less value than yours. So I'll ask if you will do something to record your adventures. I've been thinking of finding a huge long canyon wall...and doing a pictograph of trip reports lol, like the Anasazi. I think their renderings of adventures will outlast ours.

A real treasure Whazoo ... ancient ruins and art along with snow and ice in the desert. The ruins are especially amazing. It must have been quite an effort to haul all the building materials up onto those ledges. And I guess the poles must have come from the mountains?

Whazoo - I'm going have to disagree with you, I think this is your best pictorial yet!! Great trip report and between your new camera and great compositions and LR/PS skills you really ended up with a beauty of a trip report! Those ruins look exactly like the same ruins I led a workshop to photograph back about 15 years ago, (oh, just kidding, lol). Nice job hunting those down, I can only imagine all the work that goes into it, I would never release any information on the location! Keep them trip reports coming, you're the only one that doesn't enjoy them! Be safe my friend!
