Increase wheel size without mods on F250?

Anyone know if I could up my wheel size to 20" and run a 275 or 285x 55 E rated tire on them. I have a 2000 F250 with 265x75 16 tires now. I would not want to have to cut fenders or anything.

I went from 245/75R17 to 285/70R17 tires and the net result was that the tire height (ground to center of hub) with the camper in the bed with the new tires was the same as with the truck bed empty and the old tires. Now with the new larger diameter tires and the camper in the bed the odometer and speedometer are dead on accurate.

Vision 19.5" wheels can get you more load capacity if needed, but they are narrow. I run Toyo M143 highway tires on them. H-rated. 245/70R19.5 clears the wells with no rubbing - about a 33" tire. The wheel itself is good for 4500lbs.

This is probably old news to most F series owners but they use a "Hub Centric" wheel as opposed to lug centric as is the norm for street cars and many other PU's. Some folks contend that hub centric, by virtue of a precision match of the wheel center hoe and the hub has superior carrying capacity as the lugs are in tension only and not tensile and shear combined.

Beefie,
I am running a V TEC wheel Made by Vision. Mine are a 395-2970MFO. Although my tires are rated at 3750 the wheels are rated at 3650. So I do stand corrected from my earlier post. Never the less, they are so much more of a tire and wheel combination that the factory 16" that came on the truck. I am not a computer wizard by any means. With that said I know you can google V-TEC wheels and see oll of the specs on their products.

I have searched for 20" rims. I only found one style that had a load range of 3600lb. All the rest were 3400-3000lb. Mickey Thomson offers some big high capacity ones at a whooping 3100lb, I don't consider that high capacity. National Tire&Wheel use to carry some wheels at 3600lb. Some Dale Jr signature wheels, those were the only ones with a high load range. It looks like they don't carry these anymore.

When choosing an aftermarket 20" wheel you need to carefully look at the load capacity, since many 20s are more for bling then load.

Harvey,
I didn't know that answer so I had to go out to the shed and look at the boxes they came in. They are a 20"X9" wheel. The sidewall pretty much goes straight up with just a slight curve to it. My pick up originally came with the 16" wheels and this set did raise my cab steps up about a half inch. The ride quality that came with the tires made the rig much more stable at keeping in the lane that I want it in in all types of weather. The side winds that used to push me all over has gone away with the more sturdy tire. I can also tell you that truck handles well empty when I reduced the tire pressure to 50. Somewhere there is a picture of my rig here on this forum so you can see the fit in the wheel well. Let me know if you can't find it and want to see the fit.

If you check the various tire charts, you will find that the 275/55R20 is within ยฝ" diameter of most 17" OEM truck tires. My truck came with 20" wheels and a 17" spare and I was concerned about using the spare. Did some checking and found out this info.....Don't worry, you will not have clearance problems and will like the 20" tire much better.

Yes, I have a 2001 cc 4X4 and I am running a 275/65R20 cooper tire and love them. The load rating is 3750 per tire and they handle great. I have no rub issues whatsoever.
