is running exhaust brake all the time ok?

It's actually a good idea to run it. Main exception would be on slick roads, I'd turn it off then.

But with the Ford, they don't make enough backpressure to worry about the slick road thing.....

I wish there was a setting to have it activated at startup, with the ability to turn off for slick roads.

But if it turns on automatically, you’ll forget to turn it off. That’s dangerous.

No it isn't. You don't forget to turn on your headlights, turn on your wipers, and roll up your windows.

I put 115K on my former truck and ran the Exhaust Brake for every mile and was still on the OEM Brake Pads when traded.

No Idea on a Ford. On my 11 and now 15 RAM every single start I hit the Tow Haul and Exhaust Brake buttons.

I don’t turn on my wipers they are rain sensing.

Headlights are auto, but only when dark, I need to fool the sensor.

Wife generally never does, but our younger son who is generally the passenger usually does for her…lol.
I’m probably 50/50. And more like 90/10 when it hits that early upshift and I’m doing 1100rpms lugging it trying to accelerate, or hit the first big hill and end up using the service brakes.
If I had deeper gears, and or smaller tires and a transmission that didn’t shift like a wet bag of dog poo, I would probably use the functions less. Especially tow haul.
