We have a 2021 Highland Ridge - Open Range stick and tin (conventional) trailer. It has a 3/8” walkable roof deck, although ours did not come with a ladder. I noticed the other day from my stepladder that the roof surface is not smooth. Most noticeably, the seams look terrible although all is intact and well sealed. Whatever is over the seams (under the roofing membrane) is relatively soft and smooth so that part just seems cosmetic.The other weird thing I noticed is that the roofing surface seems to have an embossed look with the OSB type material surface showing through. I can feel the material texture under it as welll.This is a PVC roof which is supposed to require less maintenance than conventional or TPO roofing, but other than that I don’t know much about it...

I see your point, and would have expected some form of underlayment, but the companies brochure, from their website, does not show any form of underlayment. open range brochureThey do point to a 15 year NON PRO RATED warranty, so copy that and ensure you stay within their maintenance guidelines.

“Less maintenance” of any RV roof is a bad idea. Inspect quarterly and preserve as needed. I use Heng’s.

clearly looks like the joint between OSB boards, possibly a bead of adhesive/sealant between the boards to make sure they stick together. On top of that, then, lies the membrane, and perhaps a wrinkle in that. This is just guess work, of course, since I have no experience with that make/model roof.

After just doing a roof they use a cloth tape on the joints of OSB to keep it from wearing a spot through the roof, same with the sides of a trailer where the roof joins.After looking at it doesn't look wide enough for the cloth tape.

Looks like they used the cheapest grade of OSB and it may have had water damage before installation.

It appears, to me, they painted or coated cheap OSB.
I would definitely be checking that roof on a regular basis. Water will probably lay in the pockets.

That's EXACTLY what swelled OSB looks like. Do you leave near the beach? High humidity might have caused that OSB to swell. And, if that's the case, there's no fixing it.

Interesting. Maybe you could visit the dealer and have a look (pictures) of similar units/roofs, someone on the forum with the same unit roof could check. If other units are smooth, it might be time to talk to the dealer service dept or check with the manufacturer.

Thanks for the replies. For more info, trailer is a 2021 and I’ve only had it about 3 weeks. It hasn’t even been rained on yet! I think I’m going to email the manufacturer so at least I’ll have a record that this goes back to the trailer being new. I’ll also follow up with looking at other trailers of the same model to compare. You’d think they’d at least use OSB with a smooth side. I didn’t get up there, but it does fee solid and not like water damaged OSB feels.

That really does not look good, If that thing leaks and goes unnoticed you are going to have a LOT of water damage...............
So the roof has a 15 year warranty does that warranty cover the water damage to the walls, floor, insulation etc after the leak is found............
