3+ kid fact of life - 3 rows of seats. I think all 2007+ full sized SUVs have integrated receivers and no aftermarket. The 1000 pound limit is the same and the GM half ton SUVs which has been the highest in class since then.
Like PAThwacker said, we can load up the SUV with people and stuff and enjoy a comfortable ride while towing. I would not call it useless. I have 2051 pounds of payload compared to just under 1400 pounds for a similarly equipped half ton model Suburban. 1051 pounds is not difficult to eat up with larger families and gear.
