KBB.com vs NADA.com

I currently have my Suburban for sale on CL. I have it listed below NADA according to their website. However, everyone calling me keeps low balling me based on KBB.com. There is quite a difference between the two websites. Which one is more accurate? What do you all use for buying AND selling? There's not a lot of 3/4 Burbs around so I don't have much to compare too other than a few on AutoTrader.

One other thing I forgot to mention ....

When listing on craigslist be sure to post the 4 or so pictures they let you, but also list more pictures and provide a link to another site (one of the free photo hosting sites). Also provide as many details about the vehicle, heck provide a listing of oil changes, etc. Many people list on craigslist and don't even provide a picture. The more you provide will show them that you are legit and will definitely help you out.

I have sold a few cars, a truck, and a camper through craigslist and each time I listed as much info that I had along with providing many pictures through an external link (photobucket).

I think you are priced right. To estimate value you can use the ones you have listed: NADA and KBB. Also use edmunds and blackbook (you can access blackbook via
http://www.cudlautosmart.com/Research/TradeInValues.aspx?articleId=7&WT.svl=VehicleBuyingGuide

I would take the wholesale/trade value average of NADA, KBB, Edmunds, and Blackbook and that should get you into a wholesale value. I would then add a certain margin to it for a private sale.

The problem is all of the pricing guides above are just estimates and I doubt a heck of these have went through auction recently. Usually with vehicles 10+ years old it really comes down to condition, service history, and you having what they want.

I think listing it on craigslist like you did is a great start. I would also do like I recommended above and list it on ebay classifieds. You could also go to a few small private used car lots that have older vehicles and ask what they would give you for it which will give you a good idea. You could pay to list it on autotrader or cars.com but then you are putting out more money.

Good luck. I am sure someone will come along looking for exactly what you have, just have to wait for that right person.

It's an LS 4x4.

I realize it's my truck and I can sell it for what I want. However, something is only worth what someone's willing to pay for it. My original question was about website's more than actual value. But I appreciate opinions.

banks and financial institutions use nada for loan values and claims through insurance companies. So use that one. I feel like KBB was created just for the auto sales industry to low ball people. Theyll give you KBB trade but are going to turn around and sell it for NADA retail.

Is this a Base, LS, or LT? Is it 4WD?

If 4WD I think you are priced definitely right; maybe a little low.
If 2WD I think you are priced possibly about a grand high.

Curious about trim: Base, LS, or LT.

Also consider posting on Ebay classifieds (this is a free service).

You might also want to check out ebay. There are 3 1999 2500s listed right now. You can also search the completed listings also if you have an ebay account. Another place would be to post the info of your suburban on the Edmunds real world trade values forum. The members on that site can pull auction values, although this one might be a tough one. Curious how many miles you have on it and what you have it listed for?

KBB is the "Zillow" of the auto sales business IMHO. Their used vehicle pricing tends to run higher than NADA or the "Black Book". In Southeast, or Florida anyway, the Black Book seems to be the "bible" of choice for determining retail/trade in values for used vehicles.

If you're getting calls, then they are interested. If the vehicle is clean, well maintained and looks great then those calls are your opportunity to talk them into see it. If no one wants to come look, then you might want to lower the price. Remember, they're looking for a good deal as well as you would be. If its a good buy, itl sell. Good luck
