Depends on what you want to tow. My 8.5' wide enclosed trailer got into the jacks with a 42" extension so I had to pony back up for the 48" extension. Even with that I need to be careful. For me, the correct answer is to extend the tongue on the trailer and hopefully go back to the 42" extension. Beat to load it up and check with a tape measure. I could easily tow a boat with a 42" extension and have no issues.
1172 has the same 11-11" length my 1162 had and it took 48" stinger to tow the boat. Depends on tongue it can vary few inches. My Ford come with 3" hitch, so I actually made extension from 3" tubing, but for 2" hitch you will need superhitch and stinger.
You could always get a Curt extension and cut the length to fit…I tow a 4600# trailer with about 43” extension length…I added a bolt-on Curt commercial receiver - the stock Ram DRW receiver does not have as much strength…
