TTBeachBum.

You are the quality type person we need to have around here! Thank you for reporting back and sharing what your experience was. What is even better, you and your DH are still in the game and getting another Truck Camper, as well as being safe too.

Also, thank you for appreciating the efforts of the many that contributed their thoughts and experiences. After all, we wish you to have memorable adventures in your Truck camper, as well as though those that were reading along and wanting to do something similar. We do have some great people posting here.

Looking forward to your follow-up. As well as what the dealer might have tried to say to make it all O.K.

I want to thank everyone for their comments and experiences. It made us do more research and question our 'experts'. The rv dealer representative came by tonight to take back the unit. The numbers were not right, and the dry weight was over 4500 lbs and although the springs may have been able to support the weight, the tires would not.

We are grateful to weight police ๐Ÿ™‚

my next post will be comments regarding the 1050S...

I do not have paperwork in front of me for exact #, but the weight advertised was correct. The scale at TA is the same scale the rv dealer uses. We are shoppijg for the f loaded tires both online and while running around thus weekend without success. We are waiting for the dealer/spring shop to do the right thing. i hope to have the paperwork to post what enhancements have been done. I have never encountered such......from both shop and large rv dealer..

Also, we are not novice campers, this willl be our first new truck camper in 7 years of truck camping...20 years with a tt. We have been blessed to have both at the same time. We have driven with campers through Monticello, upstate Ny to Equinox PA... New England....to the soft ocean sands of Long Islands beaches... now we want to be weekend explorers to FL coasts. i never state i am an expert because there is always something to learn from someone willing to share their experiences.

I too will be interested in any information from the OP. I am not so much interested in the weight/truck issues but more on the safety and handling issues. I would like the OP's impression of how it handles in panic type stops or long downhill grades or sway in quick sideways movements.

Are you flippin' kidding me? Lance shows the 1191 as 3500# "dry"

Show me a scale print out that shows anywhere near 3500#

Hi John. I think we might be talking in circles. If you check RenoAl, you will see his Tare Tickets, Unladen and Ladened. I have no reason to feel his Tare Ticket is incorrect.

My earlier post, when I purchased my 1191, dry it was 4300# and very little options on it. As stated in my earlier post.

It has often been discussed in how manufacturers "Tagged" weights are not accurate. Lance has provided many examples of inaccurate Tags. How they do this, I haven't a clue.

Also, below is the OP's statement of ownership. Maybe I just read it differently, but it implys to me that the OP already has the TC, loaded and would try to get to a scale soon. (see below)

I do not have the tag from the unit in front of me but is was only a bit heavier than 3505.

I found a TA that has a scale last night. Hopefully on Friday, we will be able to get the TC and truck weighed. We can weigh the truck separately at another time.

What good is "now be certified for 3800#"?

"The payload on the TC is 3800 (and change)"

That "change" is going to be closing in on 1000# or more.

The OP should be able to take the truck/TC combo out for a test drive and see if he has second thoughts BEFORE signing on the dotted line.

Just IMHO and after owning 4 TCs.

Within this thread, you will find the OP has already taken delivery of a Truck Camper, as well as already owning the Truck. Also, numerous owners of 1191 owners have posted here that they have weighed their campers, before loading personal items and fluids, and none of them were even close to the 3800# in your comment. I'm one of them. The OP recognizes the limitations of their truck and are taking steps to bring up it's capabilities. I for one am interested in the upgrades and the experiences the OP will have with these improvements. The die is cast and they are doing the work to make things safe, with what they have. Thus the interest of this thread.

The test now is whether the OP will come back and report back the weights that she indicated they were going to get.

Many qualified owners responded here, their perspective. The OP stated that she had many people, qualified too, providing sage information, as well, in the viability of the a 3/4 ton SRW truck can be modified to carry the weight safely and effectively. Many of us understand this position, as it has been visited before. Sadly, most that bring this topic up, never follow up with information on the actual Weight, with camper and truck loaded. One of these recent threads was started by; Oaks17(sp.?) and he hasn't been back since.

The OP commented that they have the truck and Lance Camper now, so hopefully we will have some feedback from the OP and that will answer many of those that have commented. But, some just choose not to weigh their truck and camper together and just travel on.

The 1191 is a great floorplan, but I would not carry it on a SRW truck.
My 05 1191 ready to camp was 5200lbs. Over my DRW GVW, but handled it ok.

I do not know if this is of value but here is the information for my 2005 1191. You can see from the figures that the ready to go weight will be over 5000 lbs.

This is the sticker on the outside. It shows a "dry" weight of 4144 lbs.

This sticker is from an inside cabinet and shows a weight of 4449 lbs. It includes most of the options.

This image shows the weight of the truck with a full tank of diesel.

This image shows the weight of the camper on the truck mostly ready to camp. You would need to add my wife, dog, food and beer and misc. items say 500-700 more pounds.

I have only seen one 1191 on a SRW truck. Below is a picture. The owner said he purposely did not want a DRW truck. The modifications he made, if memory serves, were new rims and 19.5 tires, upgraded springs, air bags and shocks and sway bar. He said it cost more than a dually when he was done but he was happy. Here is a picture.

I'm a little concerned about putting a 015 1050s (ordering it today) on my old 99 Dodge 1-ton 4x4 dually! It hauls the old Lance 880 ok (I have added those bump stops to do the O/L springs & helped. I couldn't imagine putting the 1181 (which I prefer over the 1050) or an 1191 on my dually! but of course it has a lower GVW because of its age.
One good source for figuring added weight for options is from the Arctic Fox brochure or website. I found they pretty much list the individual wt for most everything. Lance is a pretty well equipped TC in its base model so maybe there isn't to much to add to there specs.
I,m sorry I don't know your situation, but after owning several new Ford f-250's in the 80's & 90's they all had poor brakes. I know things are better on the new one's, but I would definitely consider the F-350 just for the added margin the 1-ton has over the 3/4 ton. Just IMHO,
congrats on the new TC-Hope all works well.
