Lance 820 in DRW longbed possible?

I've owned quite a few campers and am now firmly in the big truck small camper school. I'm seeing some Lace 820's but not finding any indication whether or not it'll work in a longbed truck. Anybody knows, I'd appreciate hearing about it. Thanks, Chuck
  • That's a short bed camper.
You could always install a 2'storage box/fuel container in the very front of your long bed and then you will have a 6' box to hold your 820.
  • You can put a shortbed camper on a long bed truck and use the extra space in front for something else, and some people do that... but it always looks odd.
  • Or if it doesn't have a generator or storage built into the rear wings then it may fit all the way up in a long bed.
  • This was my set-up before I sold the arrow last week. Looks are subjective and I did not find the appearance offensive... ESPECIALLY with all the extra srorage space...

COG relative to the rear bumper is the same regardless of a short bed or long bed camper- my COG is about 2" forward of the rear axle- same as on a short bed truck... that extra space is welcome for storage and for much larger capacity eU-3000 Honda generator:

I built a simple frame to place between the front of the camper and the truck bulkhead. It is custom fit to keep my generator in place.

  • Another thought... While a SB camper will physically work on a LB bed, I looked quickly at the links provided by Old-Biscuit and it reminded me... Lance campers I think requires those strut thingy cabover supports that fasten to the area right in front of the truck. Those cabover support fastening points might be different with the camper itself set back farter than normal.

So, even though it can fit, it will really be up to the Lance recommendation if the camper can be used unsupported in the front.

Lance doesn't require them. They are offered to help reduce movement of the camper though.
