Lap sealant maintenance

We've had our Rockwood 2607 for a year and a half and I'm getting ready to touch up the lap sealant on the roof as it is starting to crack a little. The rubber roof is a tan color due to the emerald package we have and it is textured. Will normal tan colored dicor self leveling lap sealant work? Is there any place I can go to see what the manufacturer recommends?
  • My Rockwood manual mentions roof maintenance but doesn't say what caulk to use. I had some questions about the factory install of my roof which meant a call to the roof mfg, Alpha Systems. Very nice folks. I asked them what is recommended for cleaning (they said murphys oil soap or dawn dishwashing liquid) and what caulk to use. They said dicor is fine, or the dicor replacement that is showing up at Camping World and other dealers. One thing they did mention is that for a TPO roof be sure to make sure nothing that contains petroleum distillates is used on the roof as it will degrade the material. Hope that helps.

Forest River gives generic instruction in their manual and tell you to contact your dealer to find the correct sealant. Some tan Dicor should work just fine over the existing caulking. I normally clean the affected area, let it dry, then fill the crack with the Dicor. Then I'll put a little extra over the top of that. Here's a link to where you can find your owners manual. Forest River uses one manual for all of their trailer trailers. The same manual is used for Coachmen and Palomino trailers.

Thats what I've done with my '97 5ers rubber roof and never a leak.
If its a hair line crack in the sealant I add just a bit of self leveling Dicor to the crack....if the OEM sealant is loose or the edges lifting I pull it off but don't disturb whats still working. Then recaulk that spot.

Best info is use a product your trailer mfg or roof material recommends as the use of some products can and has voided the units roof warranty. A area FR dealer can have that info for you.
