Leaky trailer

Hi all. Well it's that time of year , finally (in Alberta) to de-winterize my trailer. I filled the fresh water tank, and turned on the water pump to pressurize the pump, and flush the system, and water started gushing out of the city water connection, and it won't stop until I turn off the pump. Any idea what might be happening here?
Thanks,

Hi Thanks for all responses. I removed the old one and took it to my dealer, got a new one ($14.95) and replaced it in the trailer. Now works perfectly. ๐Ÿ™‚

In response to Daryll's question, I did release the pressure and drained any residual water, but, who knows, there could have been some left, or I broke it when I pressed it in.

You can solve the problem temporarily by capping the city water inlet, but check valve should be fixed.

when you winterized did you pop off the conical metal debris screen and press the black button to release any residual water behind the city water input? if not the valve may have frozen/failed. Pop off that screen....depress the black valve a few times and try again. If water comes out again the valve has failed and is relatively inexpensive to replace.

Thanks for the speedy response folk.s I kinda figured that was the issue, but I thought I'd check with the experts first! ๐Ÿ™‚ This was my first winter with a travel trailer and I thought maybe I had missed a step while preparing to de-winterize.

Not a big deal. Yes, bad or stuck open spring loaded check valve ($10 part) Before writing off the check valve, try using an ice pick or small screw driver, (water pump off) gently push the check valve in and see if you can reseat the valve. If not, then replace it. If you need a temporary fix, thread a garden hose nozzle into the connector and the nozzle valve will temporarily stop water flow until you replace the check valve.

Sounds like you have a check valve that's failed or gotten stuck open. When you run the pump you are forcing water back out that way. Or, maybe you have a valve in the wrong position (kinda doubtful).

Check valve at the fill on the city water connection has malfunctioned.
