"In the process of researching and investigating, I found that there are no actual shock absorbers controlling each spring. When you look under the truck from the rear, the big coil springs are clearly seen but no shock absorbers .... wha ???"
Look in front of the airbags. You'll find the missing shocks there!
The center shock you're describing is essentially a traction bar to control wheel hop or rotation of the differential. Ram calls it a power hop dampener or something.
If your truck doesn't have rear shocks someone stole em and it would bounce like a rubber ball.
