Leveling a Travel Trailer

I'm a fairly new TT owner and I have only camped at really level sites. So here is my question for those sites that are not all that level:

1. I have a double-axle trailer. Do I need to level both tires on one side? Or is just one okay?
*I was trying to do both but it's not easy getting 3-4 leveling blocks under the rear tire due to it's close proximity to the front tire when backing it up. If I only need 1 or 2 blocks, it's a different story.

2. Let's say I need 4 blocks and I only block up the front tire (see above question), then how to I chock that side of the camper? Is it necessary if the other side is chocked and I have my X-chocks between both tires on both sides in place?

    Both, Try a long 2 x 6 2 Chock it both sides. You can put chocks between axles instead of in front and behind. Don't block one axle. Puts the load on that axle.

    Look into the Andersen type levelers. I made my own and can raise one side a tad over 3”. They are simple to use and don’t require any guesswork. They also eliminate having to carry an assortment of lumber..

    Those things are the greatest!


    X3 on the Andersons. Also, put some blocks under the stabilizers so they don't have to extend as far. Seems to make it a little more solid.

    I also use the Andersen levelers, a little expensive, but worth every penny in my opinion.

    Keeping to the OPs question, it depends. If your only a little out of level then a board under one wheel might be enough and two would be too much. In that case, one board is fine. If your way out of level then boarda under both wheels would be best.

    Depends on the type of suspension. If torsion axles always use blocks under both. If springs with an equalizer (normal when 2 axles with springs) and only a little is needed blocking under one is OK. If more than a couple of blocks are needed it is best to use a 2 step process. Run up on the 2 then put another stack and come up on it. After leveling put some under the stabilizers so they aren't over extended

    get 2 pieces of 2x8 long enough to fit under both wheels make one about 6 inches longer than the other, get a couple of 2x4 by 8 inches. now you can level 1 1/2 or 3 or 4 1/2 or 6 inches.

    Always park adjacent tires on the same surface. Whether you're using Lynx leveling blocks or another brand just build a base long enough to accommodate both tires and pull up on the stack, whether it's one level, two levels, three, or whatever. I went a step further and secured my Lynx to a folding wood base so they can't shift, can't crack, and can't sink into a soft ground surface. I even have a second non-Lynx base for fine tuning my side-to-side level and have yet to run into any situation where my achieved level isn't just about perfect. More pics are in my gallery.
