Put the new to us camper on the truck for the first time. It compressed the rear end down 3 inches. I don't have air bags just the factory camper package that has the overloads and rear sway bar. We took it for a short 15 miles drive to the local farm store and then to the grocery store. It was my first time driving with a truck camper. I have many years pulling 5th wheels. This was a different kind of experience for me. Didn't have to worry about swinging the turns really wide and could park easily.We bought this for a two week out West trip next summer but also will take it on a couple of local trips this fall to get used to camping in it.

Just my opinion but you may want to consider investing in air bags

Be careful pulling out of parking lots or off the road into camp spots. With that long overhang and rear end sag it doesn't look like you have a lot of clearance between the rear jacks and the ground. You don't want to tear the rear corners off your new camper. You may want to look into some suspension mods to raise the rear end up a bit. Other than that congratulations on your new camper and happy camping!

I'll definatly be looking at air bags or stable loads. The person I bought the camper from gave me the air bags off her truck but the being her truck was a older chevy the brackets are different than what I need.

I've been searching the Forums here for the DIY stableloads. I may try to go that route instead to save a little cash.

Depends how the truck and camper are equipped. I avoided generators, awnings, A/C, and many other unnecessary items when ordering my camper to minimize the weight of the camper. I also avoided diesel due to it's increased weight and reduced payload ratings of the tow vehicle.

I don't have my scale slip handy but I was over on the rear rating by a couple hundred pounds. The rear rating was exactly equal to the combined OEM tire ratings. I upgraded tires and feel my truck is very capable of hauling my Lance 1030 safely. Other upgrades to the truck are Rancho 9000s and Air Bags.

It is 3" at the wheel well. I measured the before and after at that location. The drive is sloping downward towards the barn which may make it look worse.

You may be correct about the weight. I'll get that done soon.

That truck's compressed a LOT more than 3" in the rear.

You'll be surprised at how much you weigh. Definitely more than 8800lbs.

My truck is 8800 lbs GVWR.
Getting the truck and camper weighed is on my list of things to get done. We have a farm supply depot near by that I can do that.

Good looking rig.

Hope you enjoy truck camping. I sure do. After camping for years in a travel trailer I bought my truck camper for a trip to Alaska in 2005. Best decision I ever made.

I would do stable loads before air bags. I tried making my own but just purchased the Torklift ones after some failed concepts.

I made my own version of his design and they work great.
