Looking at TT and 5er...looking for input on that and brand

We're currently looking at upgrading from a 2006 Pioneer 21cks. We typically dry camp mostly in the Sierras but do some times camp with full hookups at the beach etc.

We're looking for bunks for our 2 kids (11 and 13). We've looked some and have liked the Outdoor RV Creekside 27BHS as well as some other TTs with a very similar floor plan. However, we really like the layout of the following 5ers, the 14 Jayco Eagle Touring 28.5BHDS and the Eagle HT 27.5BHS. Also have seen the KZ sportsmen online that appears promising.

Towing with a 10 Ram 2500 6.7CTD SRW SB.

Want to stick right around 30'.

Any feelings on the build quality of each? Pros, Cons? Any other suggestions for brands in this range? Thanks!
  • Both Northwood and OutdoorsRV are quality and solid units. That TV should have no problem with anything behind it. Remember that a bumper tow will be more flexible on dirt roads, that is, there is less risk of bed contact when on dirt roads that cause articulation between the TV and TT.
  • Thanks for the suggestion on the Snowriver. Really like that floorplan. The bad news is no one has one available anywhere that I can find to look at.

The Outdoor Creekside I mentioned is made by their sister company.

Thanks for the suggestion on the Lance, but that floorplan isn't really what we're looking for.
  • From where you are, I'd look at Nordwoods MFG. Snow River 288 looks like a good fit for your family.

Agree! I certainly would look at Northwood products. Arctic Fox is their top of the line and has their own frame and is what they call a four season coach. From what I can tell they are well built. A little heavier then other trailers, but your diesel will tow one with no issues. I think they make a 31 foot bunkhouse. It is an impressive trailer.

  • Having looked at a lot of trailers last summer, we ended up going with a Winnebago.I suggest checking their floor plans and if one or more meet your needs it may be worth your time to check them out. IMHO, the quality of their product is a little better.
  • I have heard nothing but good things about KZ. We will be considering there fifth wheels in the future. They don't seem to be built like tanks (We've looked at several) but they don't have the issues that other brands seem to have
  • I've had 2 bumper pull Jayco's...1999 27BH & '03 300FSS. The first one sold me on the second one. Now that I've had several TT, there isn't much difference in the common items (pump, refer, A/C,etc.) between brands, some are just built better.
  • Have you looked at the Lance Travel Trailer 2185?

Quality 4 season trailer w/ 3 bunks in the back and a walkaround queen bed.
