looking at new 5er Cedar Creek Silverback 29ik

I'm looking at the Forest River Cedar Creek Silverback 29ik and was wondering if there is anyone out there who has one or a similar model that can tell me what they thought of it and how its performing. We really like the size and floor plan. Seems like all RVs have issues (owned a few), some less and some more so that's a given. Is Forest River good with their warranty and do they seem to use descent parts in their rigs? The things we like most are the size (overall 33'10") and the fact that the bathroom entry is just in the hallway, and the dry weight is under 11k. Oh, and of course the price (under 50k). Any thoughts and any suggestions are welcome. Thanks all!

Forest River discontinued this as per government ruling, they claim it was a insurance much like the private warranties and they are not legally in the insurance business. It was a great offer when available.

  • You can also buy the second year warranty for like $150, if you do it within a certain time.
  • We just traded in our 2009 Silverback 32WRL for a 2019 CC Hathaway Edition - 34RL2. Oiur Hathaway version is an upgrade, of course it is also 10 yrs newer.

We LOVED our Silverback and that floorplan, and did get some upgrades...the wide bodies did have a structural design flaw, and ours sure did. Cedar Creek covered ALL costs to fix it, came to our house to pick it up, would have delivered it back, but we wanted to go to the factory. Denise Davis (now promoted) and crew was fantastic in their repair work...and they gave us many FREE repairs...this was after 7 or 8 yrs of ownership...otherwise, we had NO issues. We did replace the OEM tires with XPS RIBS to play it safe after 3000 miles....my choice.

We are members of the Cedar Creek RV Owners Club....not sure if a non-member can create threads to ask questions...but you can read topics. The Club has ALOT of pull with the factory....which has a list of all members.

If you buy the Silverback you should look into joining. We also know several folks that have owned multiple numbers of Cedar Creeks.

WE are Creekers for life based on the customer service we have received since 2009!

    Good Luck,
    Mike
  • Look at the discussions on www.cedarcreekrvownersclub.com. Very knowledgeable individuals.

  • I would suggest joining this forum and ask in the Cedar Creek section, you should receive plenty of info there.

  • Had a '06 Silverback bunkhouse from June '05 until spring '17. Was a very good coach and had hardly any issues with it. Had cargo capacity of 3,000 which compared to a lot of todays coaches (incl our new one), is a lot.CC used to excellent with their customer service, don't know now.
  • My last FW was a 2013 Silverback, and was trouble free, except for a rear window that exploded out of warranty, but they still sent me a new one which I installed.
I did replace the tires after one trip with Bridgestone 250's, and wish I had kept it since I upgraded my truck.
The only thing I didn't like was the cathedral ceiling slide that dumped water near the steps.
  • My last fiver was a Cedar Creek a d for 13 years we never had a complaint. CC have had a reputation of offering good value and decent quality. The basic difference between regular Creeks and the Silverback boils down to finish. Things that are options on Silverbacks tend to be standard on regular Creeks. Customer support has aleays been outstanding until recently. Sadly quality across all RVs has suffered since the huge uptick in business, so be prepared for issues no matter what.
