Saw this announcement today that Ford is undertaking a huge re-org and splitting the company into 3 divisions: Internal combustion (ICE), battery-electric vehicles (BEV), and commercial. The big news is that they will be asking their dealers to "specialize" in one of the 3 lines.They're trying to drive efficiencies in design and then get the same efficiencies in the service dept. Makes sense that you can't expect a tech to be an expert in diesels, twin-turbo V-6's and electric vehicles.The downside is that if your local dealer decides to specialize in electric, you may have to take your F350 PSD elsewhere.

Figures, 2 Ford dealers that I used to use in my area no longer work on MH's , whether or not they are on a Ford chassis, it's more about more space to work on cars. :(

Nothing will change at the Ford dealer. If they sell the product, they will be required to service it, which means the dealer will be required to have the required equipment and training.I will say that anytime there's been leadership from a British background it never yielded positive results.

Ford dealers will sell and service what the majority of us buy. In California that may well be electric in a few years due to state policies.

50 years ago there was 1 Ford dealer in metro that sold/serviced heavy and and medium duty trucks. They would rarely handle light duty, but never saw a car in shop. There where a couple other dealers that would sell/service medium duty, light duty, and cars. Most dealers would sell light duty trucks and cars.

I already have to take my F350 to a different dealer. In my town there is a regular car dealer and a separate truck dealer and shop where they service trucks and commercial vehicles.

Now I can convert this to a EV discussion by informing you that you could have stayed home and enjoyed a beverage if you had embraced an EV vehicle! No Oil changes! I have saved myself three trips in the last 26 months!;)

When you have the LRYIQ, Mach-E, Lightening, Ioniq, etc. you will have extra time!

So asking the dealer to "specialize" could mean that they only sell and service BEVs for example. A Ford BEV dealer may not be required to fix a PSD.

This is it right here. I'm not suggesting this is a good idea, I'm only relaying what I see in the auto news for you Ford guys who may not have heard. We'll see how it turns out.
