So my camper winters in my buddys field outside of town. His mine and a few others get rowed up on cedar 2x10s and all is well. usually we go get it in may once the wields have dried a bit. This year we are looking at starting earlier (easter weekend)and the field is seldom dry by then. I no longer have my jeep (beast in the mud 4x4 with locking differentials) The tractor is 2 wheel drive and my truck is 4x4 but open diffs. Anyone have any outside the box ideas to get the camper out? For what its worth its about 200 yards to solid ground. over vegetation but very soft leading to a dirt (mud) strip at the culvert to the road.

I'd be inclined to buy a couple sheets of 4' x 8' plywood, rip each one in half so I had four pieces each 2' x 8' long, and alternate each set of 2 to "walk" the trailer across soft, wet ground.

thinking about it. thinking would need for the tow vehicle as well though. if it comes to that ill do it but man would that ever be unpleasant

Mine got stuck last spring now I have 8 sheet of 3/4 inch plywood in the shed. Might be able to get away with 1\2 inch which is a little lighter to carry around. Its a pain but worked well. I was thinking of ripping them down this year like soundguy suggested.

Hire a mobile home moving or house moving company a few hundred and they have everything needed to get it out

for a few hundred id just rent a cabin and not bring the trailer? more likely ill just giver'er with the truck or tractor and use some boards where I can to help it along. was hoping for a freeze to take it over the mud but forecast suggests winter is mostly done.

Cutting down some plywood would probably be the easiest. Like SoundGuy said, cut them down to make a couple of tracks and drive over them. I've seen people attach sections of 2x4's strapped to the tires which function like really big cleats. It can get you out of some of the bad stuff, but it would probably tear up the field.

Well temps here in S Ontario are rising over the next few days but are forecast to drop below freezing this weekend so why not pull it out then when you have your best chance of frozen ground.

Nah ... here in Ontario one can buy a couple sheets of 3/4" 4' x 8' sheets of plywood for about $40 Cdn apiece. Rip each in half and the OP will be able to use them for years to come so the amortized cost will eventually amount to very little.

The problem with wood/plywood is once you get mud on the tires you will have no traction on the wood. Unless you attach some furring strips across the boards for the tires to grip on you will likely just slide off of them. Best would be to install them in a "V" shape with the bottom of the "V" pointing away from where you are going. That way if the tire slips it would slip towards the center of the board.
