Looking for insurance coverage of TV if I rent it out

Hello. In the past I have rented out RVs that I have owned. Worked well for me. I am now looking to rent out my trailer and pickup (F350 dually).

The trailer insurance coverage is taken care. But the provider does not cover tow vehicles.

Do you know of an insurance provider that offers coverage of privately owned vehicles that are rented out?

This is an extra truck and trailer that I have so therefore not my daily driver or vacation trailer. I know that Uber and RelayRide offer coverage for private parties to rent out their own vehicles for a fee.
  • I'd think it would be easier to sell your extra truck and trailer than to insure it and rent it out.
  • You will need a commercial policy that covers ALL drivers on rented/owned vehicles. It will need to be endorsed for the purpose of rental use. In FL, you're require to carry higher levels of accident/medical/damage coverages. The policy will cost you twice as much as a normal consumer policy, especially because of the GVWR of the subject truck. Unless you rent it out several times a year, you likely will not recoup the cost of insurance and maintanence.
  • Check with an Independent Insurance Agent. Maybe Progressive will do it. I'm sure there is a high risk company that will.

Might also look into a non-owner policy. Most of these will be at least 50% more than what a standard policy is.

Sure isn't something I would consider. Good luck.

My auto insurance policy covers anyone I have let drive my vehicles. I specifically asked about it when I leased a car in my name/insurance for my mother in law to mainly drive.

That said, there is no way I'd rent out my RV or TT. The risk of damage costs far exceeds my threshold for newbies to borrow or rent.

That is different than a for profit transaction. Some regular auto polices even go as far as excluding if you deliver papers with them. I cannot remember who it was but they wanted a commercial policy to cover that.

  • Must be nice to have an "extra" truck and trailer laying around.....
