- avoidcrowdsExplorerI got an air mattress set from Camping World. Topped it with egg-crate foam. It is wonderful! Adjust either side for each of us (also got a 12v air pump which inflates each mattress in less than 45 seconds).
Works great for us! - IntheloonybinExplorerWe tried many options of; air mattresses', foam toppers, etc in ours before we finally had a custom mattress built for our end of the camper (kids worked with other options) by "the original mattress factory" which made a regular mattress built to size for the measurements of the bunk. It was around $400 and worth every penny to us. Good luck!!
- fmattox73ExplorerI went with the original mattress and a three inch memory foam topper (Amazon)
that I cut to size. Buy I considered new mattress. If the foam hadn't worked out then my solution was going to be an air mattress with the foam topper.
I seem to recall that I called the factory parts people and was quoted $125
for new mattress's ea. (At 4" thick) - p220sigmanExplorerWe also just added a foam topper to ours. We only had room for one that was 1.5" thick and even with that, I have to let the roof settle a little before I latch it down. It made a huge difference in comfort. Before you replace or add, be sure how much room you have to work with once the roof is closed.
I've also heard of some just replacing with air mattresses and deflating them to lower the roof. - azrvingExplorerWe have always replaced them with foam. Most large foam stores have display beds and cut to any size you want.
- RoyBExplorer IIWhat I did with my POPUP was to add a three-inch MAGIC FOAM topper to both tent bed ends... Made all the comfort difference in the world.
Not sure what it would do for making your used mattress more hygienic safe for you to sleep on. If that is a real concern and you are having trouble replacing it with a new one try finding a plastic bag to slip the mattress in and use the three-inch memory foam topper on top of that ??? You could probably get a plastic bag at almost any mattress place.
On my trailer the three inch foam topper just meets up with the roof when lowered down into travel mode. Anything thicker would end up being depressed when the roof is lowered.
Keep in mind when you are searching for the right size that the trailers use what is called RV SIZES which are smaller than the residential mattress sizes. Make a measurement of your POPUP mattress size to get the correct size before buying one.
Also alot of POPUPs may have the built-in electric heater pads. One of my trailers has this...
