- 805greggExplorerOn the Ram Mega cab the truck is bigger than the bed, not a good choice for a camper
- Another member here has an AF811 shortbed model in his megacab's truck bed. Works great.
(it's not me) - nomadictxnExplorerActually , the Ram site shows the bed on a MEGA cab to be 6'4". I get the extended cab 6.5 ft bed, just not the megacab and the 4 door crew 1/2 ton short beds

No offense, but what is the use of a pickup with a tiny bed?
It's not a tiny bed. It is a short bed pickup just like any other. It's not like the Ford F150 Supercrew with a 5.5' bed. It is a true 6.5' shortbed pickup.
And if it was a dually with a 12000+ lb gvwr it'd be plenty useful. At 10k gvwr with 8.5k empty weight it's useless for our purposes. - nomadictxnExplorerNo offense, but what is the use of a pickup with a tiny bed?

Any hard side camper is going to overload the truck by 20% or more on a SRW megacab. All that weight for the cab doesn't leave much for payload.
Course I don't know what the payload is for that truck....but my hardside is 1750 dry and I think there are lighter ones. Surely a 3500 is going to have something near 3000 for payload? Mine is almost 4000. But it is just a crew cab not mega cab.
You might want to think again. My 3500 is a quad cab and has 2700 lbs in payload. The same truck in a mega would have even less than that and if you're realistic about your 1750, my quad could barely carry your camper.
If your truck doesn't have at least 1,000 lbs of payload left after your dry camper is installed on the truck, you are overloaded. You might not know it, but weigh your rig. You'll see. - MarshflyExplorer

No it doesn't matter in SRW. In fact a 1500 Mega and a 2500 mega are the exact same truck with different badges. Eng choices aside, they are otherwise identical for a given model year.
No longer the case starting in 2013. The 2500 and 3500 use totally different rear suspensions. - tonymullExplorer

For a short bed I'd look for a Lance 830. They are one of the few SB campers with a side entry. I love my side entry camper. I tow a lot or have a bike rack on the back. The door is always easily accessible.
Good point & that would be better for myself as I'll be towing a dinghy or car trailer a lot.
