Lp detector problem

We bought our 2010 keystone hideout new in 2010. We've always had a problem with the Attwood lp detector chirping once and the LED going solid yellow. If not reset it will beep again in about 30 seconds. The manual says it is a processes error. A few years ago after a few try's with the dealer we got it to do it and they replaced it but it still continues to do it. It always happens when when go to cook at the nearby stove. Has anyone had a similar problem? This beep about gives my small dog a heart attack every time it happens..
  • had the same issue this summer. took in to have it looked at. they did a drop test. system held 8lbs steady for 15 minutes. They couldnt find anything wrong with the the system.

It has gone off before while my daughter was spraying hair spray and one other time while the oven was in use.

my Starcraft is a big POS anyway so who knows.
  • Our damn LP detector was going off, it seem to wait till 4am. I just got rid of it, I called for a replacement and it was $120 with the same 1 year warrenty as ours had.

Yes. I will also add a problem I found with mine after purchasing a 3 year old used TT.

Previous owner: Some liquid soap had spilled just behind where the LP detector was installed in the kitchen cabinet. Since it did not appear the soap was ever cleaned up, the soap proceeded to corrode the wire connections at the LP detector. Jump forward to me having an issue with the LP detector periodically going off.

When I removed the detector to inspect it, one of the wires was only held on with a few wire strands. The few wire strands that remained was not even close to allow the proper AMPs to flow to the detector, causing an issue where the detector would periodically go off but did not indicate LP detection. I cleaned up all of the liquid soap and then re-spliced the connections and have not had an issue since.

Point of the story is yes, low voltage will cause a LP detector to periodically go off even without LP detection. I believe the manual states low voltage will cause this occurrence.
  • We had the exact same issue happen with us and the only thing I can contribute it to is that we didn't have one of the valve connections seated tightly to one of the LP tanks. The dealer couldn't replicate it nor could they find a gas leak once they tightened it. The next trip out which was this past weekend (9/12) it chirped once and yes it's loud and about gives you a heartattack. I reset it and was quiet the rest of the trip.

  • An easy way to check for leaks is to shut off both LP tanks and watch the green/red indicator. If there are no leaks the indicator will show green and stay green.
If there is a leak it will show red in just a few minutes. If that happens one has to find the leak using various methods; leak detector or soapy water.
  • There is a shelf life on detectors and it varires by tpye. If I remeber it's five years for LP.

The dealer tried to slide that by me but it didn't work, the LP detector in our rig was alreay well into the second year.
  • Sounds like you might actually have a leak. You mention, "when you use the stove". LP gas is much heavier than air. The gas lines are going to be close to the floor. Would suggest a pressure check on your system. Might try and borrow a portable gas detector to verify. Many safety supply stores and some large distributors such as United Rentals ( trench division location) rent them.
