Magnatex 6300 Converter issue

I bought an old 1999 Fleetwood Elkhorn and it came with a Magatex 6300 Q-series converter. I have no problem with my 12v or 120v systems, however, the converter does not charge my batteries when plugged into shore power. I have made some research and found a Progressive Dynamic 4635 which can replace the lower section of my Magatex converter. My camper is rated at 35 amps, however, I was wondering what the problem would be if I upgraded to a 45 amp converter.

Just verify the battery charging loop is larger than #10 wire.
Either way the PD will charge like a rocket compared to the 6300.
  • Any of progessive dyanamics 9200 series converters will work and they have built in charge wizards so pendants are purely optional. I think you can pick up 45 amp for about $170 on Amazon.

Before you buy a new converter - have your batteries tested/checked (free), make sure you battery ground is OK, and check for a defective auto-reset circuit breaker near your battery. Defective batteries won't maintain charge and bad auto reset breaker will prevent converter from charging battery.
  • The old 1999 convertor you have I would be changing out even if still working. They been known to almost always shorten battery life. Make sure you get a three stage charger that knows how to go to float... around 13.5 volts after bulk and absorbtion charge phases.
  • Thanks everyone for help and advice. I will upgrade the Magatex with the 45 amp PD...wish me luck as I am not very good with the electrical system.
  • Just be careful to double check everything before powering up. Even if you think you for sure got it right.
