Help Needed!! Do all master circuit breaker switch's throw when all electrical appliances are being used? I have my water heater, refer, TV, A/C, micro-wave, and then small appliances, toaster, coffee maker, iron. And if it is natural, why have it on 30 amp and not 50 amp?

Actually a residential style breaker will trip at (I'm pretty sure) 80% of the rated capacity. The other 20% is there to allow for starting up larger stuff like the compressor on your AC without tripping but if you think you can pull 30 amps across a 30 amp breaker at all times - that's just not how it works.There are other factors such as voltage that effect how much current you are drawing (amperage) lower voltage means more amps to do the same work. An AC trying to cool off a hot space will work much harder and pull more current than one that is just maintaining a cooled space in the night.You could also just have a bad breaker. In my most recent brand new built stick house I've had to replace one breaker and two different GFI outlets in less than three years.

A 30 amp breaker should be sufficient for everything ypu described, unless you have low power feeding the trailer. As the voltage goes down amperage goes up. Get out your volt meter and check the incoming power. Also next chance you get, and with the shore power disconnected open the breaker panel and check all the screws holding thw wires to be sure they are tight.If your power is OK, then switch the water heater to gas and dont worry about it.

And the fact that most TT do not have 2 air conditioners.Your 30 amp trailer is not designed to run all "high draw" items at the same time. It's up to you to manage that - or experience a breaker trip. Generally you can run 2 high draw items at a time. You just have to prioritize which two you need.

Not sure I understand the question...This is a typical wiring for the Camp site Pedestal providing both 50AMP and 30AMP serviceThis is a typical RV 50AMP Distribution. This give you two zones of 120VAC breakers. Note shown here one A/C unit is in zone one and the other A/C if installed is in zone two. All of the breakers here are rated for what they are to provide 120VAC protection for.This is a typical RV 30AMP Distribution. This is only for a single zone of 120VAC breakers. Again each breaker used here are rated for the what they are to provide 120VAC prptection for.If you have a 20AMP 120VAc circuit breaker installed it will trip when that particular circuit is drawing more than 20AMPs and will not trip the MAIN 50AMP or 30AMP circuit breaker.You can plug a RV 30AMP system in the 50AMP receptacle using the proper RV30A to 50AMP Adapter and the 20AMP circuit breaker discussed above will also only trip when you have exceeded the 20AMPs current. Don’t forget the start amp loads can double their running amps, and you have to allow for the starting draw… also don’t forget everything plugged in and turned off has a parasitic draw to it…
and don’t forget any time you are connected to the shore power the converter is always drawing amps in variable amounts…

This is all before the AC, water heater, or microwave is running…

once you are plugged into the shore power you are lucky if you have 18a or 20a left for the things you want to run…

You don’t have 30a to use that you have control over in a 30a system…

retcsgt, add up all the breakers in your home... I bet the value you get is higher than the main. Just sayin'

Hi retcsgt,

The a/c is generally about 12 amps the water heater is about the same. Microwave in mine is a whopping 13.25.

In short, there is nothing wrong with the RV. A 30 amp service simply can run any two large loads at once, but NOT three.

I'm not sure what the amp/watts are, but with TV, A/C, water heater, then the Micro wave, that trips the main circuit. Ok until Micro wave goes on.

Hi,

So what loads are actually causing the 30 amp main breaker to trip? List them in amps or watts please.

If you drop the hypothetical and exaggerations we might be able to help. Tell us what you are really operating.

Tell us what the incoming voltage is reading.

Give us the amp ratings from the labels of what you are using.

Coming on here and ranting about how you were lied to isn't going to get you any real help.

All to many for a '12 TT. My priority concerns are the electrical and queen mattress. The mattress material is tearing like its real old. You can poke your finger through it, that's how bad its worn out. But, the warranty only covers if the seams are tearing apart. Now does that one make sense? And of course the circuit breaker issue. I don't believe I mentioned the make and model, it's a LaCross made by Prime Time Mfg. I should of let that out earlier. That way others can stay away.

I apologize if I sounded hard, It's that I have a 23ft. TT, and have never had any problems with it. And when I went to purchase this new one, I specifically stated that I would have the use of free electric in all the places I intended to stay, and the sales mgr., himself, stated I won't have any problems with this new TT. "They, the manufacturer, have really upgraded everything in these new TT, that I was able to use it full time year round." I appreciate all the replies I've received for my question, however, and understand that I was lied to when I purchased it. Thank you for your answers and all the other people whom has replied as well. I have learned from the information received.
