Help Needed!! Do all master circuit breaker switch's throw when all electrical appliances are being used? I have my water heater, refer, TV, A/C, micro-wave, and then small appliances, toaster, coffee maker, iron. And if it is natural, why have it on 30 amp and not 50 amp?

Don’t forget the start amp loads can double their running amps, and you have to allow for the starting draw… also don’t forget everything plugged in and turned off has a parasitic draw to it…
and don’t forget any time you are connected to the shore power the converter is always drawing amps in variable amounts…

This is all before the AC, water heater, or microwave is running…

once you are plugged into the shore power you are lucky if you have 18a or 20a left for the things you want to run…

You don’t have 30a to use that you have control over in a 30a system…

retcsgt, add up all the breakers in your home... I bet the value you get is higher than the main. Just sayin'

Hi retcsgt,

The a/c is generally about 12 amps the water heater is about the same. Microwave in mine is a whopping 13.25.

In short, there is nothing wrong with the RV. A 30 amp service simply can run any two large loads at once, but NOT three.

See my "work around" solutions, from my first post on the thread.

Will have to check owners manual, don't have them at present time. Will post when I get them.

I'm not sure what the amp/watts are, but with TV, A/C, water heater, then the Micro wave, that trips the main circuit. Ok until Micro wave goes on.

Hi,

So what loads are actually causing the 30 amp main breaker to trip? List them in amps or watts please.

If you drop the hypothetical and exaggerations we might be able to help. Tell us what you are really operating.

Tell us what the incoming voltage is reading.

Give us the amp ratings from the labels of what you are using.

Coming on here and ranting about how you were lied to isn't going to get you any real help.

All to many for a '12 TT. My priority concerns are the electrical and queen mattress. The mattress material is tearing like its real old. You can poke your finger through it, that's how bad its worn out. But, the warranty only covers if the seams are tearing apart. Now does that one make sense? And of course the circuit breaker issue. I don't believe I mentioned the make and model, it's a LaCross made by Prime Time Mfg. I should of let that out earlier. That way others can stay away.

Hi retcsgt,

So, are you having problems with the new unit?

I apologize if I sounded hard, It's that I have a 23ft. TT, and have never had any problems with it. And when I went to purchase this new one, I specifically stated that I would have the use of free electric in all the places I intended to stay, and the sales mgr., himself, stated I won't have any problems with this new TT. "They, the manufacturer, have really upgraded everything in these new TT, that I was able to use it full time year round." I appreciate all the replies I've received for my question, however, and understand that I was lied to when I purchased it. Thank you for your answers and all the other people whom has replied as well. I have learned from the information received.

This reply is to KD4UPL. I'm glad you can't "imagine" and listed all the "while's" at what you can't/don't do. Have you ever heard of hypothetical terms? That's what I was using. As for the wanting to do? Yah, I stay at places I don't pay for electricity, why would I want to use propane? Any one in there right mind don't pay for what they don't have do. Nibble on that awhile.

I'm sorry. I didn't realize you asked a hypothetical question. Usually people who ask hypothetical questions don't ask about "recourse with the dealer" to resolve them.
I agree it's much smarter to use electric than propane. I would too. But it's an answer to what I thought was an actual problem you were trying to solve. Since apparently that's not the case I will refrain from bothering you anymore.

Hi,

If you add up the maximum amp numbers in JJ's post it is 116 in total--or MORE than a 50 amp service can provide (2 x 50 = 100).

As he and others have pointed out--not all the devices run at once.

Adding an auxiliary shore power cord can mostly remove the need to load balance in a 30 amp RV. Adding two of them does remove any such problems for me.

Some typical and modest estimates of 120 Volt AC Amp loads… 30 Amps doesn’t go very far in a modern RV…

Allowing for motor start Amps the AC and the converter alone can at times be a lot of load…

I think when someone says they run multiple appliances all the time, while turned on wouldn’t mean they are all running together all the time… in other words they have gotten away with it so far… obviously when you draw more than 30 Amp even for a short time the breaker will trip, or the breaker is faulty…

Power management is almost always necessary with a 30 Amp RV, because there are too many things we can’t control… for example we control the AC on switch but not when the compressor starts and stops, or when the water heater kicks on, or when the battery charger decides the battery needs a boost… the water heater and fridge and other DC circuits still draw power while connected to shore power… RV conveniences have passed the 30 Amp threshold a long time ago…

My AC normally draws more than 10a, and the converter alone can draw from 1 -8 amps you need to allow about 8 amps for start-up draws… you are basically at your limit with only the AC turned on with the risk of tripping the breaker most of the time…

Allowances I use…

Allowance for startup Amp draw – 8 Amps
Air Conditioner (X number of A/C) - 12-16 Amps
Computer (Laptop) - 2-3 Amps
Converter - 1-8 Amps
Electric Water Heater - 9-13 Amps
Light (60 watt % 120V) - <1 Amp
Microwave - 8-13 Amps
Microwave (Convection Oven) - 13 Amps
Refrigerator in AC mode - 5-8 Amps
Space Heater - 8-13 Amps
Television - 1.5-4 Amps
Washer/Dryer - 14-16Amps

I think the bigger concern I have is from those that claim they can run to many things at one time and have never tripped a breaker… sounds to me that they should have their breakers tested…

There have been millions of counterfeit electrical breakers that have entered the country from China and no one knows how many may be out there…
The RV industries buying policies sure makes them ripe for buying some of them…

My TT has 30 amp service now, just don't understand why they place all these appliances in it if main circuit breaker isn't going to allow them to work at same time. Is there any recourse from my point against the dealership that sold me the unit?

Your RV came with a toaster, iron, and coffee maker? Mine didn't.

It is ridiculous to think there is some sort of recourse. Your lack of understanding what you were buying and now your lack of understanding how to use it is not the dealer's fault.
