Manual Crank Rear Slide

I have a 2007 Surveyor (Forest River) with a rear slide. My question is how you would manually crank this rear slide in or out if the motor ever failed. The previous owner did not know and I cant seem to find an answer on the internet. There doesn't appear to be any hole or crank access on the perimeter of the trailer; nor is there any special crank tool that came with the trailer. There is an access panel on the interior back wall under the slide/bed where I can see the motor. There is a an area on the motor that one might be able to attach with socket and turn, but with limited access/turning radius. If this is the correct way you would be on your belly and under the bed as it moves into the trailer. It would also take you about 2 days of cranking. Any help on this??
  • Well, I finally figured out my manual crank slide issue. Turns out Bessie-Hunter was correct. Except there was no "hole" in my unit. I found the motor and a rod coming out with socket head on it. I could put a ratchet on it and turn 1/2 turn at a time due to cramped space. This would take 2 days to crank slide out. The crank faced me at the rear wall under the bed so I cut a hole in the wall to expose the crank. Case solved!! Why this wasn't done at the factory is beyond me, but I am now able to insert 3/4 socket through the hole and manually crank the slide in or out. Thanks for your help
  • Thank you for the replies. Believe me, I have searched every inch in and out for a "hole" or crank slot to no avail. Bessie-Hunter could you please humor me and be more specific if I admit I don't have much mechanical aptitude? Where exactly is this "hole in face of bed slide"?. Are we inside or outside? I have a removeable cover inside under the bed/slide where I can see the motor. Other than that, I do not see a hole or crank location in or out or under. Thanks again so much for offering your help.
  • You use the stabilizer jacks crank handle and insert it into the hole in face of the bed slide out and crank it in or out. Owned a 05 255rs for 8 years.
