Maxxfan delux latent power draw

Has anyone tested their maxxfan delux for power draw when shut off ?

    I’m afraid that’s no so . The unit I reported on is a Maxxfan deluxe 6200k manually operated lid with no remote control .

    The maxxfan was my only latent power draw and a simple $3 toggle switch solved it . There are multiple ways to skin a cat.
  • Every situation is different. I have a Pioneer stereo in my Northstar, and if I turn off power to it, when I turn the power back on, it goes into "Demo Mode", and has lost all it's settings. Since I reprogram it so rarely, it takes me 20-30 minutes to find the manual, figure out which of the numerous settings I need to change, and get it all reprogrammed. I really like the Pioneer when it's programmed correctly. I would consider buying a different stereo, but it's pretty much impossible to find out which models don't lose their memory if they lose power.

    So I leave the batteries connected during winter storage, and the stereo plus another mysterious phantom draw combined draw about .2 amps. I keep an eye on the cumulative draw with my Victron BMV 712, and once a month or so when they get low I plug the camper in to charge them back up.

    For some that is true . I happen to store my camper on my property and want to use my lights on entry for checkups . I also have my battery charger set up on a weekly timer for winter and a battery disconnect would not allow charging. There may be some who would be interested to know that the maxxfan does not shut completely off with the off switch .


    A proper disconnect switch takes 2 seconds to flip, so you can use the lights without any noticeable burden.

    If you want to cycle the charger automatically, you can wire that on the other side of the switch but with it being fully disconnected, it's far less of a concern.

    There are multiple items in your average RV that have tiny draws and it makes sense to disconnect from the battery if it will be in storage and the best way to do that is a disconnect switch that cuts the battery off as opposed to multiple switches for each device...this is a perfect example of why since many may not be aware of the draw from the fan.

  • There’s a number of small items in our truck camper that have a parasitic draw when off (dvd player, maxxfan, OTR antenna, safety sensors, etc.). Total parasitic is about .5a. We rewired our OEM battery switch from a partial to total disconnect which nets us zero parasitic when we store our TC.
  • Finally got to test the maxxfan for latent power draw . Even in the off position it draws .10 amps , not a lot but it will still take my batteries down to 50% in 2 months while in storage. I installed a toggle switch to completely shut it off .
  • Any device with remote control will have a trickle feed to keep those circuits alive. It is why I turn off my combination door lock remote and avoid buying hardwired devices that do not have master power switches or some way to add them.
